Abstract
Se presenta un filamento de acero, para retorcerse en un cordón de acero para el refuerzo de artículos de caucho tales como neumáticos, mangueras y bandas transportadoras. El filamento de acero comprende un substrato de acero que es recubierto con un recubrimiento que comprende latón. El recubrimiento es diferente en que la cantidad de hierro en la superficie es distintivamente más alta que en los filamentos de acero de la técnica previa. El recubrimiento tiene un contenido de hierro promedio de 4 o más por ciento atómico comparado con el total de átomo de hierro, zinc y cobre en la capa que se extiende de la superficie a una profundidad de 3 nanómetros abajo de la superficie. Se describen cordones de acero hechos de los filamentos de acero así como productos de caucho que comprenden los cordones de acero. Los métodos para fabricar los filamentos de acero con un contenido de hierro incrementado en la superficie se presentan junto con alternativas. Los filamentos de acero inventivos muestran una retención de adhesión mejorada bajo condiciones calientes y húmedas y esto en cauchos que contienen compuesto de cobalto orgánico así como cauchos que están sustancialmente libres de cobalto. El tiempo de vida del artículo de caucho se prolonga mediante el uso de la invención.
