Abstract
Un sello mecánico (10) que emplea una placa de soporte de resorte axialmente movible (230) que se acopla a un elemento de sellado (202), como una junta tórica, asociado con un anillo de sellado estacionario (30). A su vez, el anillo de sellado estacionario puede tener una cara de sellado que se acopla con una cara de sellado de un anillo de sellado giratorio (20). El anillo de sellado giratorio también puede tener un elemento de sellado (188), tal como una junta tórica, asociado con el mismo. Las juntas tóricas se disponen inicialmente en una posición descargada en la que no se comprimen radialmente y, por tanto, los extremos no se expanden circunferencialmente más allá de las caras de los extremos del soporte o de los segmentos del casquillo (40). La placa de soporte del resorte se puede mover axialmente apretando los pernos (250) seleccionados asociados con ella. Cuando se mueve axialmente, la placa de soporte del resorte mueve el anillo de sellado estacionario (30) y la junta tórica (202) asociada con el mismo en una dirección axial hacia adentro, colocando así las juntas tóricas en una posición cargada, donde las juntas tóricas se comprimen radialmente.
