Abstract

En el presente documento se describen métodos y dispositivos para controlar o modular un sistema inmunitario en un sujeto con cáncer, y métodos y dispositivos para tratar un cáncer en un sujeto; el dispositivo implantado puede estimular eléctricamente el nervio esplénico del sujeto, lo que puede modular el sistema inflamatorio (por ejemplo, aumentando o disminuyendo el nivel en sangre de una o más citocinas pro-inflamatorias y/o citocinas anti-inflamatorias para aumentar o disminuir la inflamación en el sujeto) y/o activar o aumentar la circulación de una o más células inmunitarias (tales como células asesinas naturales y/o células T citotóxicas), para el tratamiento del cáncer; el dispositivo médico implantado incluye dos o más electrodos configurados para estimular eléctricamente el nervio esplénico y puede incluir además un transductor ultrasónico configurado para recibir ondas ultrasónicas y convertir la energía de las ondas ultrasónicas en energía eléctrica que alimenta el dispositivo.
