La presente invención proporciona enzimas sacarosa fosforilasa (SP) modificadas genéticamente, polipéptidos que tienen actividad SP y polinucleótidos que codifican estas enzimas, así como vectores y células hospederas que comprenden estos polinucleótidos y polipéptidos; también se proporcionan métodos para producir enzimas SP; la presente invención proporciona además composiciones que comprenden las enzimas SP y métodos para usar las enzimas SP modificadas genéticamente; la presente invención encuentra un uso particular en la producción de compuestos farmacéuticos.
