Abstract

Ciertas modalidades ejemplares de esta invención se refieren a técnicas para convertir capas de TiNx o TiOxNy depositadas por pulverización iónica en capas de TiOx a través de la activación con radiación electromagnética. Una capa intermedia que incluye TiOxNy, 0<y<1 se forma sobre un substrato. La capa intermedia se expone a la radiación, la cual es absorbida preferentemente por la capa intermedia en una cantidad suficiente para calentar la capa intermedia a una temperatura de 500-650°C mientras que se mantiene el substrato a una temperatura significativamente más baja. Una luz intermitente operada con una serie de impulsos con duración de milisegundos o sub-milisegundos se puede usar en este respecto. La conversión elimina nitrógeno de, e introduce oxígeno en, la capa intermedia, causando que la capa se expanda más allá de su espesor inicial. Por lo menos algo de la capa final puede tener una fase de anatasa, y puede ser fotocatalítica. Estas capas se pueden usar en aplicaciones de vidrio de bajo mantenimiento, antirreflectivas, y/u otras aplicaciones. La figura más representativa de la invención es la número 1.
