Abstract

La invención se refiere a un método y a un dispositivo para determinar cuantitativamente el número y tamaño de componentes particulados contenidos en un medio que fluye a lo largo de un canal de flujo, en donde se acoplan ondas ultrasónicas dentro del medio que fluye, las cuales se reflejan por lo menos parcialmente en los componentes particulados y cuyas porciones de ondas ultrasónicas reflejadas se detectan en la forma de señales de tiempo ultrasónico, en las que se basa la determinación cuantitativa; la invención se caracteriza por los siguientes pasos del método: - acoplar las ondas ultrasónicas dentro del medio que fluye de tal manera que por lo menos una porción de las ondas ultrasónicas acopladas se refleja en una región de pared del canal de flujo que delimita el medio de flujo o un reflector introducido dentro del canal de flujo, vía lo cual se genera una señal de tiempo eco-ultrasónico que puede estar asociada con la región de pared o el reflector; - determinar por lo menos una función de valor de umbral de amplitud que establece un valor de umbral de amplitud para cada señal de tiempo ultrasónico detectada, tomando en consideración por lo menos la señal de tiempo eco-ultrasónico; - detectar los valores de amplitud asociados con las señales de tiempo ultrasónico individuales, cada una es mayor que un valor de umbral de amplitud establecido para cada señal de tiempo ultrasónico; y - asignar los valores de amplitud detectados a valores que describen el tamaño y número de los componentes particulados.
