Abstract
Un sistema de tratamiento de aguas pluviales y un método para eliminar sedimentos, contaminantes químicos y desechos del escurrimiento de aguas pluviales mediante la utilización de prácticas de bioretención que incluyen proceso físicos, químicos y biológicos. El agua pluvial se dirige hacia un contenedor multidimensional principalmente con fondo abierto mediante lo cual los sedimentos arrastrados y otros materiales transportables se filtran y se tratan a través de una capa filtrante de medios que consiste de materiales inorgánicos y/u orgánicos. Una planta viva (preferentemente un árbol) situado dentro del contenedor con raíces que residen en la capa de filtro de medios con la capacidad de expandirse más allá del perímetro del contenedor a través de aberturas en una o más paredes laterales. El agua tratada puede transportarse además más allá del perímetro del contenedor mediante aberturas y/o tuberías adicionales. Puede incluirse un aparato de tuberías de desbordamiento/derivación/limp ieza colocado verticalmente dentro del sistema de tratamiento de aguas pluviales para proporcional el transporte adicional del agua. Pueden conectarse instalaciones auxiliares adicionales de transporte, filtración y almacenamiento al sistema de tratamiento de aguas pluviales descrito cuando las condiciones lo justifiquen.
