Abstract
La presente descripción proporciona un método para seleccionar una planta que comprende un gen restaurador funcional para la esterilidad masculina citoplasmática de tipo S que comprende las etapas de (a) analizar un población de plantas para al menos un ácido nucleico marcador, donde el ácido nucleico marcador comprende un alelo unido al gen restaurador funcional para la esterilidad masculina citoplasmática de tipo S del maíz; (b) detectar el ácido nucleico marcador; (c) identificar una planta que comprender el ácido nucleico marcardor; y (d) seleccionar la planta que comprende el ácido nucleico marcador, donde la planta que comprende el ácido nucleico marcador comprende además, el gen restaurador funcional para la esterilidad masculina citoplasmática de tipo S del maíz. La presente descripción también proporciona métodos para restaurar la fertilidad en una progenie de una planta masculina citoplasmática de tipo S y métodos para transferir un gen Rf3 a un planta de progenie.
