Abstract
La invención se refiere a un procedimiento para producir una composición de polímero termoplástico reforzado con fibra de vidrio larga, que comprende los pasos subsiguientes de a) desenrollar de un paquete por lo menos una hebra de filamentos múltiples de vidrio continua que contiene cuando mucho 2% en masa de una composición encolante; b) aplicar de 0.5 a 20% en masa de un agente para impregnación a dicha por lo menos una hebra de filamentos múltiples de vidrio continua para formar una hebra de filamentos múltiples continua impregnada; y c) aplicar un forro de polímero termoplástico alrededor de la fibra de filamentos múltiples continua impregnada para formar una hebra de filamentos múltiples continua forrada, en el cual el agente para impregnación es no volátil, tiene un punto de fusión de por lo menos 20°C por debajo del punto de fusión de la matriz termoplástica, tiene una viscosidad de 2.5 a 100 cS a la temperatura de aplicación, y es compatible con el polímero termoplástico que se va a reforzar. Este procedimiento permite el manejo y desenrollado de paquetes sin que se presenten problemas, no se presenta atascamiento del equipo utilizado, permite producción estable y constante y buena reproducibilidad durante el paso de forrado, y da como resultado productos termoplásticos reforzados con fibra de vidrio larga que se pueden configurar como artículos que tienen buenas propiedades mecánicas y apariencia de superficie de alta calidad.
