Abstract

La invención describe la preparación de esteres grasos de glicerol formal mediante un proceso de transesterificacion de triglicéridos o alternativamente mediante un proceso de esterificación de ácidos grasos, obtenidos previamente a partir del desdoblamiento de triglicéridos con glicerol formal en presencia de catalizadores ácidos o básicos. La invención describe el uso de los esteres de ácidos grasos del glicerol formal preparados mediante dicho proceso como biocombustible. En una modalidad dicho biocombustible es utiliza para la preparación de otros biocombustibles mediante su mezcla con un producto seleccionado del grupo formado por: glicerol formal, biodiesel, diesel derivado de petróleo y mezclas de los mismos. Los biocombustibles así preparados se caracterizan por permitir la completa incorporación del glicerol obtenido en el proceso actual de producción de biodiesel en un combustible biodiésel.
