Abstract

El proceso de la presente remueve impurezas de productos de transesterificación que comprenden principalmente ésteres alquilo de ácidos grasos (FAAE) que están siendo procesados para llegar a ser productos combustibles finales, como por ejemplo, biodiesel. El proceso de la presente es catalítico, y el éster resultante es adecuado para su uso como biodiesel. Los catalizadores de óxido de metal y mezclas de óxidos de metales son particularmente adecuados. La presente es particularmente adecuada para el tratamiento de composiciones de ésteres alquilo de ácidos grasos que comprenden impurezas tales como glicerina, esterol glucósidos y/o triglicéridos, diglicéridos y/o monoglicéridos. La presente es particularmente útil para el tratamiento de productos de transesterificación de FAAE realizados utilizando catalizadores alcalinos homogéneos.
