Abstract

본 발명은 프린트 카트리지 잉크통이 잉크로 보충될 수 있게 하는 잉크보충 포트 및 밸브 구조체를 갖는 프린트 카트리지에 관한 것이다. 대체로 원통형상의 미끄럼이동이가능한 잉크 밸브가 프린트 카트리지 몸체를 통하여 잉크주머니내로 연장되어 있다. 이 밸브는 프린트 카트리지 몸체 외측의 단부에 수컷형 접속기 부분을 갖는다. 밸브는 프린트 카트리지 몸체내로 밀릴 때 개방되며, 프린트 카트리지 몸체로부터 외측으로 당겨질 때 폐쇄된다. 잉크공급원을 포함하는 잉크보충 시스템이 프린트 카트리지 밸브의 수컥형 접속기 부분과 결합가능한 암컷형 접속기 부분을 갖는 미끄럼이동이 가능한 밸브를 구비한다. 프린트 카트리지 잉크통을 보충하기 위하여, 프린트 카트리지 밸브의 단부가 잉크보충 시스쳄 밸브의 단부내로 삽입됨으로써 2개의 밸브간에 기계적 결합과 액밀 결합을 만든다. 프린트 카트리지를 잉크보충 시스템에 대하여 미는 추가의 힘에 의해서, 양 밸브가 그들 각각의 잉크통 내측으로 밀린다. 이 추가 삽입은 양자의 밸브를 개방시켜서, 잉크 보충시스템 잉크통과 고갈된 프린트 카트리지 잉크통의 사이에 기밀 유체경로를 만든다. 양 밸브의 기계적 결함이 해제될 때 밸브는 자동적으로 폐쇄된다.

Claims (19)

  1. 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템에 있어서, 프린트 카트리지 몸체를 갖는 프린트 카트리지와; 상기 몸체내에 수용되는 제 1 잉크통과; 상기 제 1 잉크통과 유체 연통하도록 상기 몸체상에 지지되는 프린트헤드와; 상기 제 1 잉크통내의 잉크가 적어도 부분적으로 고갈된 후에 상기 제 1 잉크통에 잉크를 보충하기 위한 상기 몸체상의 잉크보충 포트를 포함하며; 상기 잉크보충 포트는 제 1 밸브에 의하여 밀봉되고, 상기 제 1 밸브는 개방상태나 폐쇄상태에 놓이도록 작동되며, 상기 폐쇄상태는 상기 제 1 잉크통의 유체 시일을 제공하고, 상기 개방상태는 상기 외부 잉크통이 상기 제 1 밸브에 접속될 때 외부 잉크통과 상기 제 1 잉크통의 사이에 유체 연통을 제공하며, 상기 제 1 밸브는 상기 외부 잉크통과의 유체 연통시 순환공기가 상기 제 1 잉크통내로 진입하는 것을 허용하지 않으며; 상기 제 1 밸브가 상기 개방상태에 놓이도록 작동하는 것은 상기 외부 잉크통이 상기 제 1 밸브와 결합할 때 자동으로 발생되며, 상기 제 1 밸브가 상기 폐쇄상태에 놓이도록 작동하는 것은 상기 외부 잉크통이 상기 제 1 밸브로부터 분리될때 자동으로 발생되는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서, 이 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템은 상기 제 1 잉크통에 잉크를 초기에 충전하기 위한 제 1 잉크충전 포트를 상기 몸체상에 더 포함하며, 상기 제 1 잉크충전 포트는 상기 제 1 잉크통에 잉크를 초기에 충전한 후에 제 1 시일로 봉쇄되는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  3. 제 2 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 시일은 상기 제 1 잉크충전 포트내로 가압된 마개(stopper)를 포함하는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  4. 제 3 항에 있어서, 상기 마개는 상기 제 1 잉크충전 포트내로 가압된 볼(ball)인 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 잉크보충 포트는 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체상의 손잡이내에 위치하며, 상기 손잡이는 상기 프린트 카트리지를 상기 프린터내의 미끄럼이동가능한 캐리지내로 삽입하는 것과 그것으로부터 제거하는 것을 촉진하기 위하여 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체로부터 외향으로 연장되는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  6. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 잉크통은 상기 외부 잉크통내의 압력에 비하여 부압을 갖는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  7. 제 6 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 잉크통은 순환압력에 비하여 부압을 갖는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  8. 제 7 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 잉크통은 탄성요소에 의하여 외향으로 가압되고 있는 하나 이상의 측벽을 갖는 스프링 로딩형 잉크주머니를 포함하는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  9. 제 8 항에 있어서, 상기 탄성요소는 상기 잉크주머니 내부의 스프링인 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  10. 제 9 항에 있어서, 상기 탄성요소는 상기 잉크주머니용 밀폐체의 일부를 형성하는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  11. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 밸브는; 제 1 단부 근방에는 제 1 개구를 갖고 제 2 단부 근방에는 제 2 개구를 가지며, 상기 제 1 개구는 상기 제 1 밸브가 폐쇄상태에 있을 때 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체에 의하여 봉쇄되고, 상기 제 1 개구는 상기 제 1 밸브가 상기 개방상태에 있을 때 상기 제 1 잉크통과 유체연통하고 있는 기다란 공중형 몸체와; 상기 기다란 중공형 몸체의 제 2 단부에 위치되며, 상기 제 1 잉크통의 보충중 상기 외부 잉크통상의 제 2 밸브와 기계적으로 결합하고, 이와 동시에 상기 제 1 잉크통과 상기 외부 잉크통 사이에 상기 중공형 몸체를 통과하는 잉크 흐름경로를 만들기에 적합한 결합부와; 상기 제 1 밸브가 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체내로 소정 거리 가압될 때 상기 개방상태에 놓이고 상기 제 1 밸브가 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체로부터 소정 거리 당겨질 때 상기 폐쇄상태에 놓이도록 상기 공중형 몸체를 수납하기 위한 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체내의 수납부를 포함하는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  12. 제 11 항에 있어서, 상기 공중형 몸체의 길이는 약 0.25인치 내지 1인치인 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  13. 제 11 항에 있어서, 상기 결합부는 상기 외부 잉크통상의 제 2 밸브내의 리세스와 결합할 수 있도록 상기 제 2 단부의 근방에서 상기 공중형 몸체 둘레로 형성된 제 1 리브인 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  14. 제 1 항에 있어서, 이 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템은 상기 외부 잉크통을 더 포함하고, 상기 외부 잉크통은 그것과 상기 제 1 잉크통의 사이에 유체 경로를 만들기 위하여 상기 제 1 밸브와 결합가능한 제 2 밸브를 가지며, 상기 외부 잉크통은 상기 프린트 카트리지가 프린터내에 설치되어 있는 동안 상기 프린트 카트리지에 접속되지 않는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  15. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 밸브는 상기 프린트헤드로부터 사실상 가장 먼 거리에 있도록 상기 프린트 카트리지 몸체상에 위치되는 잉크제트 인쇄 시스템.
  16. 프린트 카트리지 보충 방법에 있어서, 프린터내의 캐리지로부터 프린트 카트리지를 제거하는 단계와; 상기 프린트 카트리지의 몸체로부터 연장된 미끄럼이동가능한 제 1 밸브를 외부 잉크통에 접속하는 단계로서, 이 접속단계는 상기 제 1 밸브를 자동으로 개방하여 상기 프린트 카트리지내의 제 1 잉크통이 상기 외부 잉크통과 기밀 유체 연통상태에 놓이도록 하는 상기 접속단계와; 상기 외부 잉크통으로부터 상기 제 1 잉크통으로 잉크를 이전시키는 단계로서, 이 이전단계는 상기 외부 잉크통에 대한 상기 제 1 잉크통내의 부압에 의하여 자동으로 발생되어 상기 외부 잉크통으로부터 상기 제 1 잉크통으로 잉크를 인출시키는 상기 이전단계와; 상기 미끄럼이동가능한 제 1 밸브를 상기 외부 잉크통으로부터 단절시키는 단계로서, 이 단절단계는 상기 제 1 밸브를 폐쇄상태로 놓이도록 자동으로 단절시켜서 상기 제 1 잉크통의 유체 시일을 만드는 상기 단절단계를 포함하는 프린트 카트리지 보충방법.
  17. 제 15 항에 있어서, 상기 프린트 카트리지는 그것이 상기 프린터내에 사용되기 전에 상기 제 1 잉크통을 잉크로 초기에 충전하기 위한 제 1 잉크충전 포트를 구비하는 프린트 카트리지 보충방법.
  18. 제 16 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 잉크충전 포트는 그 내로 가압된 마개에 의하여 영구적으로 밀봉되는 프린트 카트리지 보충방법.
  19. 제 16 항에 있어서, 상기 접속단계는 상기 미끄럼이동가능한 제 1 밸브를 상기 외부 잉크통과 유체연통하고 있는 미끄럼이동가능한 제 2 밸브와 접속하는 단계를 포함하고, 상기 접속단계는 상기 제 1 밸브와 상기 제 2 밸브의 양자가 그들의 개방상태로 작동되도록 하는 프린트 카트리지 보충방법.
