Abstract

본 발명은 광디스크 시스템에 있어서 두께가 다른 디스크 판별방법 및 장치에 관한 것으로서, 링 형상의 차폐막을 채용한 CD/DVD 겸용 광픽업과 8분할 포토다이오드를 구비한 광디스크 시스템에 있어서, 광디스크가 로딩되면 광디스크를 소정 속도로 회전시키는 단계, 광디스크의 포커스 인입을 위해 포커스 액츄에이터를 가진시키는 단계, 8분할 포토다이오드에서 외측광에 의한 외측 4분할 포토다이오드의 광량을 검출하는 단계, 디스크의 두께에 따라 검출되는 광량의 차이를 이용하여 로딩된 디스크가 CD인비 DVD인지를 판별하는 단계를 구비한다. 따라서, 디스크 두께에 대한 부가정보를 미리 디스크상에 기록해 두지 않고, 포커스 인입하기 위해 포커스 액츄에이터를 흔들때 디스크의 두께에 따른 광량의 크기차이를 이용하여 현재 로딩된 디스크가 얇은 디스크인지 두꺼운 디스크인지를 판별함으로써 판별에 소요되는 시간이 짧고, 따라서 로딩후 디스크의 신호재생에 소요되는 시간이 짧은 장점이 있다.

제3a∼3e도는 얇은 디스크 재생시 수광부의 광검출기에서의 광분포 및 합, 차신호를 나타낸 도면.
제4도는 광디스크 시스템에 있어서 본 발명에 의한 두께가 다른 디스크 판별장치를 나타낸 블럭도.

Claims (5)

  1. 링 형상의 차폐막을 채용한 CD/DVD 겸용 광픽업과 8분할 포토다이오드를 구비한 광디스크 시스템에 있어서, 광디스크가 로딩되면 상기 광디스크를 소정 속도로 회전시키는 단계; 상기 광디스크의 포커스 인입을 위해 포커스 액츄에이터를 가진시키는 단계; 상기 8분할 포토다이오드에서 외측광에 의한 외측 4분할 포토다이오드의 광량을 검출하는 단계; 디스크의 두께에 따라 상기 검출되는 광량의 차이를 이용하여 상기 로딩된 디시크가 CD인이 DVD인지를 판별하는 단계를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광디스크 시스템에 있어서 두께가 다른 디스크 판별방법.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 방법에서는 외측광에 의한 상기 외측 4분할 포토다이오드의 광량의 합을 이용하여 상기 디스크의 두께를 판별하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광디스크 시스템에 있어서 두께가 다른 디스크 판별방법.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 8분할 포토다이오드는 내측 4분할면과 외측 4분할면의 분할 좌표축이 일치하는 구조 혹은 광축의 기울어짐을 보정하기 위하여 내측 4분할면과 외측 4분할면의 분할 좌표축이 기울어진 구조인 것을 특징으로 하는 광디스크 시스템에 있어서 두께가 다른 디스크 판별 방법.
  4. 링 형상의 차폐막을 채용한 CD/DVD 겸용 광픽업과 8분할 포토다이오드를 구비한 광디스크 시스템에 있어서, 디스크의 두께에 따라 외측광에 의해 상기 8분할 포토다이오드에서 외측 4분할 포토다이오드에 맺힌 광량을 검출하는 광검출기; 상기 광검출기에서 출력되는 광량의 합을 설정값과 비교하여 디스크의 두께에 따른 판별정보를 출력하는 비교기; 및 상기 비교기에서 출력되는 판별정보에 따라서 해당 디스크에 관련된 신호처리를 제어하는 제어부를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광디스크 시스템에 있어서 두께가 다른 디스크 판별장치.
  5. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 8분할 포토다이오드는 내측 4분할면과 외측 4분할면의 분할 좌표측이 일치하는 구조 혹은 광측의 기울어짐을 보정하기 위하여 내측 4분할면과 외측 4분할면의 분할 좌표측이 기울어진 구조인 것을 특징으로 하는 광디스크 시스템에 있어 두께가 다른 디스크 판별장치.
