Abstract

전방 편광판 (1)과 후방 편광판(8)을 갖는 액정셀로 구성되어 서로 다른 색상을 발생시키기 위한 액정표시장치(100)에 있어서, 상기 후방 극성(8)은 광학적으로 투과성이고, 반사성 및/또는 굴절성이다. 후방 편광판(8)이 투과성이거나 혹은 굴절성인 경우에 광대역을 갖는 광전원(9)이 영상의 질을 높이기 위해 제공된다. 셀감속체에서 변화를 야기시키는 전계의 작용에 의해 액정표시장치에 있어서 다양한 색상이 발생되어진다. 제1실시예에 있어, 감속층은 다른 색상을 발생시키기 위한 전방편광판(1)과 액정셀의 다른 요소 사이에 설치되어진다.

Claims (14)

  1. 전방 편광판과 후방 편광판을 갖는 액정셀을 포함하며, 상기 액정셀의 후방 편광판은 광학적으로 투과성, 반사성 및 /또는 굴절성을 갖고서 다른 색상을 발생시키도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 편광편은 서로 교환 가능한 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  3. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 후방 편광판은 굴절성인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 전방 편광판을 향한 방향에서 후방 편광판에 입사광을 제공하도록 하는 광원체가 적용되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  5. 상기한 청구항 중에 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 액정셀은 각각의 전극을 지지하고, 셀 두께 'd'를 갖는 스페이서로 이격된 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 액정셀 내부에 설치되는 액정을 정렬시키기 위해 적용시켜 각각의 전극을 덮어주는 방향층을 구비하며, 상기 액정셀은 광학적 비등방성(△n)과 셀 두께 'd'의 곱이 1.4에서 1.6㎛의 범위에 있도록 형성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 액정표시장치가 상기 액정의 전위각(轉位角)은 230°에서 250°의 범위에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 방향층에 인접한 액정층은 1°에서 10°의 경사 각도를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치
  8. 제7항에 있어서, 상기 셀두께(d)과 피치 (p)의 비(d/p)는 0.5에서 1.0의 범위에 있는 것을 특징으로 표시장치.
  9. 제5항 내지 제8항의 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 편광판들의 흡수축과 상기 편광판에 인접한 기판에 액정층의 지시 방향사이의 각도는 30°에서 60°사이에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  10. 제9항에 있어서, 상기 다중 색상이 동시에 표시되어지는 데 있어 일반기준 전압이 아니라 다양한 전압을 발생시킬 수 있는 정적/다중접속장치를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  11. 상기한 청구항 중에 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 장치는 초전위(轉位)를 갖는 네매틱(nematic) 표시장치인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  12. 상기한 청구항 중에 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 장치는 적어도 하나의 감속필림을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  13. 상기한 청구항 중에 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 후방 편광판은 광학적으로 투과성 혹은 굴절성이며 광대역의 배광이 제공되도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  14. 상기한 청구항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 장치는 1.45에서 1.50㎛의 감속값을 갖도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
