Abstract

본 발명은 구동 전압을 낮추고, 계조 레벨의 열화(劣化)없이 서브 프레임 간의 구동 전압 크기 변화율을 크게 낮출 수 있는 단순 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치의 다계조(Grey scale) 표시 구동 방법에 관한 것으로, 종래의 2진 코드(binary code) 화상 데이타 체계를 액정 표시 소자의 특성 및 계조 표시 구동을 위한 서브 프레임수 및 구동전압 조건등 액정 표시 소자의 시스템 환경을 고려한 최적의 코드로 변환한 다음, 이들 변환된 화상 데이타 코드값들 중에서 하위 비트에 대하여 오차확산법을 부분 적용한후, 가중치가 높은 나머지 상위 비트를 전압 및 프레임 변조 계조 표시방식을 이용하여 다계조의 화상을 표시함으로써, 전극 구동 신호 전압을 크게 감소시킬 수 있고, 서브 프레임별 구동 전압의 크기 차를 크게 낮출 수 있으며, 공간변조에 따른 화질의 저하를 극소화할 수 있으며, 저속응답에서 고속응답에 이르기까지 모든 단순 매트릭스 액정 표시 소자의 구동에 적용이 가능한 장점이 있다.

매트릭스형 액정 표시 소자의 다계조 표시 구동 방법
본 내용은 요부공개 건이므로 전문내용을 수록하지 않았음
제11도는 본 발명에 따른 오차 확산 방식에 의한 화상 데이타 처리 순서도,
제14도는 본 발명에 따른 계조화 표시 방식에 따른 액정 표시 소자의 구동 장치이다.

Claims (4)

  1. 입력된 N 비트 화상 데이타의 오차 확산 처리값을 N 보다 작은 n 비트로 결정하는 단계; 상기 N 비트 화상 데이타를 N 보다 크거나 같은 M 비트의 최적 코드로 데이타 변환을 수행하는 단계; 상기 최적의 M 비트로 변환된 화상 데이타에서 상기 오차 확산 처리값 n 비트 만큼을 에러 확산 처리하는 단계; 그리고 상기 n 비트가 에러 확산 처리된 M-n 비트의 화상 데이타를 계조 표시 방식에 의하여 화상을 표시하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 매트릭스 액정 표시 소자의 구동 방법.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 오차 확산 처리값을 n 비트로 결정하는 단계에서 오차 확산 처리값이 1 이하이면 최하위 1비트, 2 이하이면 최하위 2비트, 3 이하이면 최하위 2비트, 7 이하이면 최하위 3비트를 오차 확산 처리하는 것을 특징으로 하는 매트릭스 액정 표시 소자의 구동 방법.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 데이타 변환을 수행하는 단계에서는, 상기 변환된 M-n 비트의 최대값이 상기 N 비트 입력 화상 데이타의 최대값과 같도록 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 매트릭스 액정 표시 소자의 구동 방법.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 데이타 변환을 수행하는 단계에서는, 상기 변환된 M-n 비트의 화상 데이타의 각 비트별 가중치의 차가 상기 입력 화상 데이타의 각 비트별 가중치의 차보다 작도록 화상 데이타 코드를 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 매트릭스 액정 표시 소자의 구동 방법.
