Abstract

제1도 제2도는 본 발명에 따른 반사 디스플레이를 도시한다. 제3도는 본 발명에 따른 투과 디스플레이를 도시한다. 제4a-b 및 제5a-b도는 본 발명 디스플레이의 일부가능한 산란 패턴을 도식적으로 예시한다.

Claims (10)

  1. 제1전극; 제2전극 수단; 및 상기 제1전극 수단과 제2전극 수단사이에 위치하고, 다색 염료를 함유하며, 이 다색 염료에 의해 입사광이 거의 흡수되는 제1상태와 상기 흡수량이 실질적으로 감소되는 제2상태간에 스위치 가능하고, 디스플레이 매질이 제2상태에 있을때, 약 5 내지 40°의 산란 절반 각도로 입사광을 산란시키면서 한편으로 입사광의 적어도 10%를 투과시킬 수 있는 디스플레이 매질을 포함하는 디스플레이.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 디스플레이 매질이 붕쇄 매질에 분산된, 다색 염료를 함유하는 양성 유전체 이방성의 구동시 네마틱인 액정을 포함하는 디스플레이.
  3. 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서, 상기 제2전극 수단이 반사적이어서, 디스플레이 매질을 통과하는 광을 디스플레이 매질을 위해 역방향으로 반사시키는 디스플레이.
  4. 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서, 상기 제2전극 수단이 투명한 디스플레이.
  5. 제4항에 있어서, 상기 제2전극 수단뒤에 광원을 또한 포함하는 디스플레이.
  6. 제2항에 있어서, 구동시 네마틱인 액정의 통상 굴절율과 봉쇄 매질의 굴절율 사이의 절대값 차가 약 0.05 내지 1.00인 디스플레이.
  7. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 절대값 차가 약 0.1 내지 약 0.2인 디스플레이.
  8. 봉쇄매질; 상기 봉쇄 매질에 분산된 별도 용량의 액정; 및 액정안에 함유된 다색 염료를 포함하고, 액정의 통상 굴절율과 봉쇄 매질의 굴절율 사이의 절대값 차가 약 0.05 내지 약 1.00이며, 입사광이 다색 염료에 의해 거의 흡수되는 제1상태와 상기 흡수량이 실질적으로 감소되는 제2상태간에 스위치 가능한 액정 디스플레이 매질.
  9. 제8항에 있어서, 상기 액정이 양성 유전체 이방성의 구동시 네마틱인 액정 디스플레이 매질.
  10. 제8항에 있어서, 상기 절대값 차가 약 0.10 내지 약 0.20인 액정 디스플레이 매질.
