제1도는 제1광빔과 그리고 제1광빔 방향으로 편광이 전환되는 제2광빔을 결합시키는 프리즘의 기하학 형태를 예시한 도면, 제2도는 LCD 투영 텔레비젼 시스템용 조명 시스템을 형성하는 편광빔 분광기 및 반사기와 관계하여 결합 프리즘을 예시한 도면, 제3도는 시스템의 효율을 극대화할 수 있도록 광을 분광시키고, 반사시키고 그리고 조합시키는 요소들이 두개의 인접하는 프리즘과 결합된 조명 시스템에 대한 제2실시예를 예시한 도면.

Claims (11)

  1. 광빔을 직교 편광되는 두개의 서브빔으로 분광시키고 다시 상기 두개의 서브빔을 재결합시키며, 상기 광빔으로부터 각각 선형으로 편광되고 편광 방향이 서로 직교하는 제1 및 제2서브빔을 얻는 수단과 상기 서브빔 중 한 서브빔의 편광 방향을 90°로 회전시키는 수단을 구비하는 광학 시스템에 있어서, 최소한 제1, 제2 및 제3면을 포함하는 프리즘 수단과; 상기 제1 및 제2편광 서브빔을 상기 프리즘 수단쪽으로 향하게 하는 수단을 구비하며, 상기 제1수단은 상기 제1서브빔을 상기 프리즘 수단의 상기 제2면쪽으로 향하게 하여, 상기 제1서브빔이 상기 제2면으로부터 완전 내부 반사되어 상기 프리즘 수단의 상기 제2면쪽으로 향하게 되고, 상기 제3면에서 상기 제1서브빔이 상기 프리즘 수단을 출사하며, 상기 제2수단이 상기 제2서브빔을 상기 편광 회전 수단을 통해 상기 프리즘 수단의 상기 제2면쪽으로 향하게 하여 상기 제2서브빔이 상기 프리즘 수단내로 굴절되고 상기 제3면쪽으로 향하게 되어 있어 상기 제3면에서 상기 제2서브빔이 상기 프리즘 수단을 출사하도록 된 것을 특징으로하는 광학 시스템.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 및 제2방향 설정 수단이 프리즘의 면을 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 및 제2방향 설정 수단이 거울을 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1방향 설정 수단 및 상기 프리즘 수단이 단일 프리즘을 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2방향 설정 수단이 최소한 제1 및 제2면을 갖는 프리즘을 구비하고 상기 프리즘의 상기 제1면이 상기 제2방향 설정 수단으로써의 기능을 하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 프리즘의 상기 제2면상에 상기 편광 회전 수단이 놓인 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  7. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 및 제2서브빔을 얻는 수단이 편광빔 분광기를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  8. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 편광을 회전시키는 상기 수단이 1/2 파장판을 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  9. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2서브빔의 상기 편광을 회전시키는 수단이 나선형 네마틱 액체 수정셀을 구비하 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  10. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 및 제2방향 설정 수단이 제1 및 제2프리즘 수단을 구비하고, 상기 제1 및 제2서브빔을 얻는 상기 수단이 상기 제1 및 제2프리즘 수단 사이에 배치된 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 시스템.
  11. 광원과 그리고 이 광원으로부터 나오는 광을 빔으로 집중시키는 수단을 구비하는 LCD투영 디스플레이시스템 조명 시스템에 있어서, 상기 빔을 직교 편광되는 두개의 빔으로 분광시키고, 이 두개의 빔을 LCD 디스플레이 쪽으로 향하게 되는 합성 빔으로 다시 결합시키는, 상기 제 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 및 10항에서 주장된 광학 시스템을 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 LCD투영 디스플레이 시스템용 조명 시스템.
