Claims (13)
- 알카리 금속 클로라이드 공급수용액을, 전해조를 음극실 및 양극실 부분으로 나누는 양극과 음극 사이에 설치된 영구선택성 양이온 교환막을 함유하는 전해조의 양극실에 공급하고, 이 공급용액을 전기분해하여 염소 및 알카리 금속 수산화물을 생성시키는 방법에 있어서, 공급 수용액을 양극실에 공급하기 전에 그 용액이 약 70ppm 이하의 "산화탄소"(CO2ppm으로 환산)를 함유하도록 처리함을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 공급용액이, 적어도 약간의 탄산나트륨 및 적어도 약간의 수산화나트륨을 가하여 용액내에 약간의 경성성분(hardness)의 불용성 화합물을 형성시킨 다음, 이 염수를 양극실에 공급하기 전에 이로부터 대부분의 불용성 화합물을 분리시켜 처리한 염수임을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서, 공급용액이 양극실로 도입되기 직전에 산화탄소 약 10ppm 이하(CO2ppm으로 환산)를 함유하며 전기분해하는 동안 양극액의 pH를 약 3.0 이하로 유지시킴을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 공급용액을 양극실로 도입하기 직전에 공급액이 약 5ppm 이하(칼슘 ppm으로 환산)의 경성성분을 함유함을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 공급용액이 약 1.0ppm 이하(칼슘 ppm으로 환산)의 경성성분을 함유하고, 양극액의 pH를 약 2로 유지시킴을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 4 항에 있어서, 공급용액이 약 0.2ppm 이하(칼슘 ppm으로 환산)의 경성성분을 함유함을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 경성성분을 침전시켜 경성성분 함량을 5ppm 이하(Ca ppm으로 환산)의 잔류 경성성분 농도까지 제거하기에 충분한 과량의 탄산 나트륨 및 수산화나트륨을 공급용액에 가하여 처리함으로써 이산화탄소, 탄산, 알카리금속 또는 알카리 토금속(마그네슘 포함)의 탄산염 또는 중탄산염, 또는 이들의 혼합물과 같은 불순물을 약 100ppm이상(CO2ppm으로 환산)의 농도로 함유하는 처리된 공급용액을 얻는 단계를 포함하여, 전기분해용 염화 나트륨 공급 수용액을 제조하고 전해조를 양극실과 음극실 부분으로 나누는 양극과 음극사이에 설치된 영구 선택성 이온 교환 막을 함유하는 전해조에서 이 공급용액을 전기분해하여 염소 및 가성소다를 생성시키는 방법에 있어서, (a) 처리된 공급용액에, 존재하는 탄산염의 음이온 및 중탄산염의 음이온이 실질적으로 모두 반응하여 이들이 실질적으로 모두 이산화탄소로 전환되기에 충분한 양으로 산을 가하고, (b) 공급용액 중에 용해되어 비말동반되어 있는 이산화탄소를, 공급용액중의 이산화탄소 농도가 70ppm이하로 될 때까지 제거한 다음, (c) 실질적으로 이산화탄소를 함유하지 않은 공급용액을 양극실에 공급하고, (d) 이산화탄소를 함유하지 않는 공급용액을 전해조에서 전기분해시키는 단계로 이루어짐을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 7 항에 있어서, 단계(b)의 이산화탄소 제거단계가 공급용액을 교반하는 단계로 이루어짐을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 7 항에 있어서, 단계(b)의 이산화탄소 제거단계가 공급용액에 가스를 통과시키는 방법으로 이루어짐을 특징으로 하는 방법.

- 제 7 항, 제 8 항 또는 제 9 항에 있어서, 공급용액중에 존재하는 경성성분의 함량은 약 0.2ppm(칼슘으로 환산)이하의 농도로 감소시키고, 단계(b)에서는 공급용액으로부터 이산화탄소를 이산화탄소 농도가 10ppm 이하가 될때가지 계속해서 제거하며, 단계 (d)의 전기 분해를 수행하는 동안 전해조의 양극실에서 양극액의 pH를 약 3.0으로 유지시킴을 특징으로 하는 방법.
