종래에는 점토광물에 식물줄기를 분쇄 발효처리하여 제조한 폿트가 특허 제6963호(공고번호 79-821)로 등록된 바 있으나 이 폿트는 관행적으로 만들어 사용해 온 것에 비하여 육묘관리가 용이하고 육모된 채로 본포에 직접 심을 수 있는 이점이 있으나 이 폿트가 안고 있는 문제점이 발견되었다. 즉 특허된 육묘용 폿트는 폿트를 만들었던 원료의 물성으로 인하여 점도가 높아서 통기성과 투수성의 불량으로 근군발달이 덜되 고 쉬 딱딱하게 굳어지는 폐단 때문에 이식후 활착이 지연되어 조기 수량은 물론 전체 수량에도 상당한 문제점이 야기되었다. 그리고 식물성 섬유질을 탄화한 탄소물질을 주원료로 하여 만든 폿트는 제조상으로는 공업성의 결여와 공해(탄소분진) 요인이 되고 사용상으로 기계화작업, 저면관수, 수분조절, 취급상의 번거로운 문제들로 작업량이 늘어나고 기술습득이 필요했으며 더욱 문제되는 것은 기계화작업과 저면관수작업이 제대로 활용치 못하게 되므로 이는 결과적으로 농업의 생산성을 크게 떨어뜨리는 일이 되는 등의 결함이 있었다.Conventionally, pots prepared by grinding and fermenting plant stems to clay minerals have been registered in Korean Patent No. 6963 (Notice No. 79-821), but the pots are easier to manage and grow than the conventional ones.
