주사전자현미경(Scanning electron microscope, SEM, HITACHI, S-2400)을 통해 모발표면구조를 관찰하였다. 한 가닥씩의 모발을 모발 시료 대에 양면 테이프를 이용해 고정시킨 후에 진공상태에서 모발의 파손을 막기 위하여 진공이온 코팅기로 처리하여, 고 해상도에서 정밀한 관찰을 위해 백금으로 도금하였다. 코팅된 모발 시료 대의 모발을 주사전자현미경의 챔버에 놓고 15kV 조건하에서 모발을 2,000배 관찰하였다.The surface structure of hair was observed through a scanning electron microscope (SEM, HITACHI, S-2400).
