- 제1 글래스 기판 상에 표시 전극쌍을 형성하고 상기 표시 전극쌍을 덮도록 유전체층을 형성하고 상기 유전체층 상에 보호층을 형성한 전면판과, 제2 글래스 기판 상에 데이터 전극을 형성한 배면판을 대향 배치하여, 상기 표시 전극쌍과 상기 데이터 전극이 대향하는 위치에 방전 셀을 형성한 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널과,상기 방전 셀에서 초기화 방전을 발생시키는 초기화 기간과 기입 방전을 발생시키는 기입 기간과 유지 방전을 발생시키는 유지 기간을 갖는 복수의 서브 필드를 시간적으로 배치하여 1 필드 기간을 구성하여 상기 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널을 구동하는 패널 구동 회로를 구비한 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치로서,상기 보호층은, 산화 마그네슘, 산화 스트론튬, 산화 칼슘, 산화 바륨 중 적어도 1개를 함유하는 금속 산화물의 박막으로 형성된 기초 보호층과, (100)면 및 (111)면으로 이루어지는 특정 2종 배향면, 또는 (100)면, (110)면 및 (111)면으로 이루어지는 특정 3종 배향면으로 둘러싸여진 NaCl 결정 구조를 갖는 산화 마그네슘의 단결정 입자를, 상기 기초 보호층에 부착시켜 형성한 입자층으로 구성되고,상기 패널 구동 회로는, 상기 초기화 기간에서, 모든 방전 셀에서 초기화 방전을 발생시키는 전체 셀 초기화 동작과 그 이전에 유지 방전을 행한 방전 셀에서 초기화 방전을 발생시키는 선택 초기화 동작 중 어느 하나를 행하고, 또한 전체 셀 초기화 동작을 행하는 서브 필드로부터 다음의 전체 셀 초기화 동작을 행하는 서브 필드 직전의 서브 필드까지의 휘도 가중치의 크기가 단조 감소로 되도록 서브 필드 를 시간적으로 배치하여 상기 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널을 구동하도록 구성한 것을 특징으로 하는 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 입자층은 산화 마그네슘 전구체의 소성 생성물인 것을 특징으로 하는 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치.
