Abstract

PURPOSE: A shock absorbing structure of a side surface of a vehicle is provided to absorb shock secondarily by installing a pad of polyurethane foam to an arm rest of a door trim and by combining a hard absorbing member to the pad. CONSTITUTION: A door trim(3) is installed to the inside of a door inner panel(2). An arm rest(4) is formed to the door trim integrally. A pad is installed to the inside of the arm rest as polyurethane foam. A hard absorbing member(20) is made of a hard synthetic resin plate or a metal plate. The hard absorbing member is laid to be exposed to one surface of the pad on one end. A protrusion portion(21) of the hard absorbing member is exposed to the other surface of the pad to be arranged to a clearance(C') between the door trim and the door inner panel. A notch is formed to the laid portion of the hard absorbing member. A tip of the protrusion portion is formed to be an arc shape to induce deformation when shock is added to the protrusion portion. Therefore, shock is absorbed well by absorbing shock secondarily.
