컴퓨터 네트워크에서의 정보 전송은 기업체들과 개인이 의사소통 및 업무를 진행하는 데 있어 점차 중요한 수단이 되어가고 있다. 컴퓨터 네트워크는 별개의 물리적 네트워크들을 상호연결하고 이들을 협조 시스템으로 기능하게 하는 광대한 인터넷으로, 단일 그룹의 필요성에 부합하도록 독립적이고 고립된 실체로부터 수년간 성장하였다. 현재, 가장 큰 컴퓨터 네트워크는 인터넷이다. 인터넷은 공통 프로토콜을 이용하여 통신하는 세계적 상호연결이 가능한 컴퓨터 네트워크이다. 하단의 개인용 컴퓨터로부터 상단의 수퍼컴퓨터까지 수백만대의 컴퓨터가 인터넷에 연결된다.
인터넷 상의 상용 웹사이트의 운영자처럼 많은 네트워크 운영자들이 네트워크나 웹사이트와의 주어진 사용자 대화(interaction)의 유효성을 결정하려고 한다. 예를 들어, 인터넷 상에서 거래를 행하는 상용 사업이 점차 증가함에 따라, 웹사이트 운영자는 사용자가 가지는 웹사이트와의 어떤 대화(interaction)가 유효하지 않거나 형사상 사기이기까지 한 지를 결정하고 싶어한다. 웹사이트와의 대화(interaction)의 유효성에 강력한 흥미를 가지는 웹사이트 운영자들의 네가지 예로는 1) 사소한 내용(trivia)의 경진대회를 제공하는 웹사이트 운영자, 2) 사용자로부터 정보를 상세하게 식별할 필요없이 고유 사용자들을 결정하려 시도하는 웹사이트 운영자, 3) 검색 엔진 운영자, 그리고 4) 유료 유치(pay for placement) 웹사이트 운영자가 있다.
먼저, 일련의 질문에 정확하게 대답하는 참가자에게 부상이 수여되는 퀴즈(trivia) 웹사이트 운영자는 자신의 실체를 감추고 여러번 대회에 참가자하고 하는 사참가자들을 맞이하게 된다. 웹사이트 운영자는 웹사이트 사용자들이 이 과정을 악용하여 부상을 받게됨으로서, 재정적으로, 그리고 신뢰도 면에서 위기를 맞게 된다. 웹사이트 운영자들이 공정한 대회를 유지하면서도 웹사이트의 익명 사용을 허용하고 싶을 경우, 운영자는 퀴즈 대회의 어떤 입력이 정당한 참가자의 입력이고 어떤 입력이 불공정한 이득을 얻고자 시도하는 참가자의 반복된 입력인 지를 평가하는 수단을 찾아야 한다.

클라이언트/서버 기반의 컴퓨터 네트워크 시스템에서 사용자 대화의 유효성을 결정하기 위한 방법 및 시스템들이 공개된다. 설명을 위해, 본 발명의 완전한 이해를 돕기 위해 특정 전문용어가 사용된다. 방정식의 형태와 상수를 포함한 특정 방정식은 시행착오 과정끝에 얻어낸 것으로서, 출원시를 기준으로 발명자에게는 최선의 방정식으로 알려져 있다. 선호되는 실시예에 대한 여러 가지 수정은 당 분야에 있어 명백하며, 여기서 규정되는 일반 원칙은 발명의 범위와 사상을 벗어나지 않으면서 다른 실시에나 응용에도 적용할 수 있다.

본 시스템 및 방법의 선호되는 실시예는 두개의 주된 구성성분을 포함한다. 즉, 데이터 처리를 실행하기 위한 네트워크(20) 상의 한개 이상의 서버(14)와, 컴퓨터를 제어하기 위한 소프트웨어를 포함한다. 네트워크 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어에 대한 선호되는 실시예가 여기서 설명되지만, 다른 동등한 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어도 물론 사용될 수 있다.

도 2에서, 운영자는 모델링 기술이 적용될 때 통계적으로 유효한 결과를 제공하기에 충분한 대화가 수집될 때까지 데이터 포인트들을 수집한다(블록 202). 통계적 결과를 발생시키는 데 필요한 대화의 수는 가변적이고, 관심있는 통계적 간섭과 수집되고 있는 데이터에 따라 좌우된다. 예를 들어, 매일 수천만개 이상의 대화를 일으키는 웹사이트의 경우에, 웹사이트와의 대화에 쓴 시간의 평균 추정 길이를결정하기 위해, 임의적으로 선택된 2000개의 대화가 수집될 수 있다. "dog"라고 분류된 링크 상의 일련의 클릭들이 운영자 웹사이트의 범주 내에서 정당하거나 정당하지 않다고 통계적으로 차별화될 수 있기 전에 약 20,000 개의 데이터 포인트들이 수집될 수 있다. 통계학자는 통계적 간섭의 어떤 주어진 질문을 위해 필요한 최소의 데이터 포인트를 연산할 수 있다.
더욱이, 매일 수천만개의 대화를 일으키는 웹사이트가 상대적으로 짧은 시간 프레임에 수많은 통계적 질문에 대해 필요한 샘플 데이터 포인트의 수를 제공할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 하루에 4320만개 이상의 대화를 일으키는 웹사이트는 초당 대략 500개의 대화를 분류한다. 운영자가 관심있어하는 질문에 대한 필요한 데이터 포인트의 상한이 300,000일 경우, 이러한 높은 볼륨의 웹사이트는 10분마다 한번씩 필요 데이터를 얻을 수 있다.
웹사이트와의 사용자 대화가 유효한 지 결정하기 위해, 집합적 방식의 데이터와 고유 특징 데이터가 수집되어, 아래 설명되고 처리되는 수학적 방정식 내의 값으로 대입된다(블록 204). 수집된 집합적 및 고유 특징 데이터는 검색, IP 주소, 검색 시간, 검색 엔진의 한 사용자에게 묶인 검색이나 검색 그룹의 작업시간, 클릭 시간, 클릭을 수신한 광고자, 그리고 클릭을 수신하기 위해 광고자가 기꺼이 대금을 치른 가격에 관한 정보를 내장할 수 있다. 집합적 및 고유 특징 데이터는 검색의 특정사항들로 축소될 수 있다. 가령, 검색 용어: dog, 시간: 12:00:00PM, IP 주소: 192.168.1.1, 광고자 ID: ABC, 작업시간 ID: XYZ, 비드(Bid): $0.25. 데이터는 주어진 시간 구간동안 용어 "dog"에 대한 검색 횟수와 주어진 시간 구간동안 IP 주소 192.168.1.1에 의한 클릭수같은 데이터들이 요약하여 포함될 수 있다.
집합적 방식 및 고유 특징 데이터는 그후 각각의 대화에 대한 위험값을 평가하도록 처리된다(블록 206). 도 5에서, 집합적 방식 데이터와 고유 특징 데이터가 병합된다(블록 500). 표형태로, 주어진 데이터 흐름에 대한 일부가 다음과 같이 나타난다.

운영자는 추정 접근법(probabilistic approach)을 적용한다(블록 502). 추정 접근 방정식은 결과가 신속하게 가능성으로 변환될 수 있도록 표현된다. 이 방정식은 기호논리적 후퇴 루틴에 대해 상용 소프트웨어의 호출을 이용하는, SAS 시스템처럼, 상용화된 통계 소프트웨어를 이용하여 도출될 수 있다. 예로 든 방정식은 미국, 노스캐롤라이나, Cary, 소재 SAS Institute에서 1990년 4판으로 출판한 SAS/STAT User's Guide Vol.2, Version 와, Hosmer와 Lemeshow가 저술하고 Wilerry가 1989년에 출판한 "Applied Logistic Regression"에서 찾을 수 있다. 방정식은 y = x' + k의 형태를 취하며, 이때 x'은 계수를 가진 매개변수들의 벡터이고, k는 상수, y는 그 결과이다. 기호논리적 후퇴 모델의 경우에, 결과는 다음 공식에 의해 확률로 변환된다.

그러나, 짧은 시간 주기 내에서 대화의 유효성 확률을 평가하는 데 운영자가 관심을 가지고 있기 때문에 방정식의 형태는 변하지 않는다. 예를 들어, 한 시간내에서 특정 광고자에 대해 다수의 바람직하지 않은 대금청구가능한 대화가 관측될 경우, 운영자는 그 행동양식을 식별하였음을 광고자에게 경보 제공함으로서 응답할 수 있다. 그후 광고자는 자신의 광고계약의 기간을 변경하고 싶어할 수 있고, 또는 원하지 않은 대화의 비용을 없애고자 계좌에 대한 자동 조절이 광고자에게 제공될 수 있다. 다른 방식은 유효하지 않은 대화를 공급하는 특정 IP 주소로부터의 클릭을 무시하고 광고자 계좌를 꺼버리는 과정을 포함한다.
추정 접근법에 의해 생성되는 수학적 모델이 부적절하거나, 유효성의 공지 상태가 큰 확실성을 가진다고 알려지지 않았을 경우, 운영자는 또다른 접근법을 통한 수학적 모델을 생성하는 것을 선택할 수 있다. 한가지 접근법은 가설로 만들어지거나 추정된 그룹 수단에 대한 거리를 최소화시키는 수학적 형태를 도출한다. 이 접근법은 판별식 분석으로 통계분야에 알려져 있고, 넓게보면 확률적 접근법으로 분류될 수 있다(블록 504). 확률적 접근법은 선형 판별식 함수로 설명되는 수학 방정식 세트를 도출한다. 방정식이 상용 통계 소프트웨어를 이용하여 도출될 수 있다.
도 6에서, 운영자는 예를 들어, 수용할 수 있으나 드문 행동양식, 정상적 행동양식, 그리고 수용할 수 없는 행동양식같은 클래스를 방정식에 할당한다(블록 600). 세 방정식에 대한 값이 연산된다(블록 602). 최대값을 가지는 방정식은 특정 대화를 유치한 클래스이다(블록 604). 예를 들어,

(방정식 8)수용할 수 없는 클래스(UC) 값 = (대금지불된 광고자 클릭의 수)*(클릭을 발생시키는 고유 IP 주소) + 1/(고유 검색 질의의 수).
한 대화에 대하여 ABUC는 12의 값을, NBC는 11.5의 값을, 그리고 UC는 13의 값을 가질 경우, 대화는 UC 그룹으로 들어간다.
도 2에서, 운영자는 상기 위험값을 저장하고, 개별 대화들의 이러한 분류에 이어지는 적절한 액션을 취한다(블록 208). 저장된 값은 보고서 생성 등 여러 방식으로 사용될 수 있다.
도 5에서, 선호되는 실시예는 웹사이트와의 개별 대화의 유효성을 결정하기 위해 추정적/확률적 접근법을 이용한다(블록 506). 운영자는 두 방법과 그 조합 중 어느 것이 주어진 시간에서의 대화에 적절한 지를 결정할 수 있다. 따라서, 수집된 집합적 방식 및 고유 특징 데이터를 이용하고 앞서 언급한 방정식을 이용함으로서, 운영자는 사용자의 네트워크와의 대화의 유효성을 결정할 수 있다. 집합적 및 고유 특징 데이터를 처리한 후, 운영자는 특정 대화가 수용할 수 있으나 드문 클래스, 정상적 행동양식의 클래스, 또는 수용할 수 없는 클래스 중 어느 것으로 분류되는 지 결정할 수 있다. 운영자는 네트워크 운영자의 대금청구에 사용되는 보고서로부터 수용할 수 없는 클래스 대화를 제거함으로서(한 예임) 필요한 대로 대화를 처리할 수 있다.
도 7에서, 웹사이트로부터 보다 많은 데이터가 수집되고 저장됨에 따라, 운영자는 방정식의 유효성을 보장하기 위해 분류 결정을 행하는 데 사용되는 수학 방정식을 주기적으로 재평가한다(블록 700). 통계 분석 소프트웨어는 입력의 불규칙성에 상관없이 입력 세트에 대한 모델을 생성한다. 따라서, 운영자가 통계 소프트웨어를 이용한 모델을 생성할 경우, 운영자는 또다른 표준에 대하여 모델을 평가한다(블록 702). 나머지 표준은 분석 시간에서의 분류 결과의 측정값이 되도록 선택된다. 예를 들어, 분류 용도로 핵심 부분에 대한 패턴 인지 분석을 실행하는 소프트웨어를 개발할 경우, 패턴 인지 소프트웨어, 즉, 통계 모델은 핵심 부분만을 봄으로서 종을 식별하는 것을 전문으로 하는 판단에 대해 최적으로 평가될 수 있다.
바람직하던, 바람직하지 않던, 여러 웹사이트 대화를 관찰할 수 있는 사용자는 두 세트의 모델 유효화 처리과정을 적용할 수 있다. 이 두 모델 유효화 기술 중 첫 번째는 소급형이다(블록 706).
도 8에서, 모델의 출력은 모델의 입력 데이터 스트림을 이용하여 도메인 전문자 등에 의해 평가된다. 도메인 전문가는 다중 대화, 가령, 수십만개의 대화를 평가하며, 각각의 대화를 유효하다, 또는 유효하지 않다라고 분류한다(블록 800). 도메인 전문가는 다음과 같이 2x2 분류표를 생성한다.

표를 이용함으로서, 도메인 전문가는 유용한 모델 세트를 구분할 수 있다.예를 들어, 가령, 매우 작은 거짓 양의 값을 가지는 것과 매우 작은 거짓 음의 값을 것을 구분할 수 있다(블록 804). 수용할 수 있는 거짓 양의 값과 거짓 음의 값의 정확한 숫자나 백분율은 도메인 전문가에게 부여된 신회로의 전체 수준에 따라 좌우되고, 가령, 거짓의 양의 값과 거짓의 음의 값 중 어떤 종류의 오류가 보다 수용할만 한지에 따라 좌우된다. 네트워크 운영자가 고객에게 요금을 부과하기 위해 웹사이트와의 사용자 대화를 감시하는 위 예에서, 거짓 양의 값은 상대적으로 수용할 수 있다. 왜냐하면, 거짓 양의 값은 정당한 사이트 이용 통계를 낮추어 보고하는 결과를 낳기 때문이다. 거짓된 음의값은 수용할 수 없다. 왜냐하면, 거짓된 음의 값은 유효하지 않은 대화로 "감염된" 데이터에 대한 보고를 이끌기 때문이다.
여기서 설명되는 바와 같이, 유효하다고 간주되는 통계 모델은 0.25%(0.16~0.60 사이)의 부근에서 거짓의 음의 백분율을 가지며, 2.50~7.50% 범위에서 거짓의 양의 백분율을 가진다. 수용가능한 오분류율은 시간상으로 효율적인 의사결정에 대한 필요성 대 신뢰도 및 정확도에 대한 사무적 필요성과 함께 변화한다. 일부 분야에서, 가령, 암진단에서, 오분류율은 통상적으로 매우 낮고, 수용할 수 있다고 간주하기에는 어렵다. 그러나 일부 다른 분야에서는, 더높은 오분류율이 수용가능하다. 사업 영역에서, 통상적으로 수용가능한 오분류율이, 가령, 낮은 거짓 음의 백분율과 정사적인 거짓의 양의 백분율을 가지는 것으로 위에서 설명되었다. 마찬가지로, 수용가능한 오분류율이 가용 도메인 전문가와 툴의 함수이다.

Claims (43)

    - 추정된 사용자에 관한 집합적 방식 데이터와 고유 특징 데이터를 포함하는 데이터를 네트워크 상의 사용자 대화로부터 수집하고,
    -데이터베이스에 데이터를 저장하며,
    - 네트워크와의 불법 대화를 식별하기 위해 집합적 방식 및 고유 특징 데이터로 예측 모델을 구축하고, 그리고
    - 예측 모델을 이용하여 데이터베이스 내 불법 대화를 식별하는,
    이상의 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    - 한개 이상의 추정 접근법(probabilistic approach)으로부터 도출되는 대화의 수학적 모델을 적용하고,
    - 한개 이상의 확률 접근법(stochastic approach)에 바탕하여 대화의 수학적 모델을 적용하며, 그리고
    - 추정식 및 확률식 수학 방정식을 이용하여 대화의 적법성을 결정하는,
    이상의 단계를 추가로 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  3. 제 2 항에 있어서, 한개 이상의 추정 접근법이 기호논리적 회귀(logisticregression)를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
