Abstract
본 발명은 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 장치에 관한 것으로, 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 요청 신호를 입력 가능하며, 진단 결과를 출력 받을 수 있는 패널 진단기와, 진단 요청 신호에 따라 패널의 스캔전극과 어드레스전극 및 서스테인전극을 각각 구동하는 스캔전극 구동부와 어드레스전극 구동부 및 서스테인전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하는 전류 검출부와, 전류 검출부로부터 입력되는 전류 측정 데이터와 기 저장된 기준 데이터를 비교하여 스캔전극 구동부와 어드레스전극 구동부 및 서스테인전극 구동부의 고장 여부를 패널 진단기로 통보하는 마이크로 프로세서를 포함하며, 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 스캔전극 구동부와 서스테인전극 구동부 및 어드레스전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하여 고장 여부 및 부위를 자체 확인할 수 있으며, 평가 패턴을 이용하여 장소의 구애를 받지 않고 화질을 평가할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
Description
본 발명은 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 장치에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 스캔전극 구동부와 서스테인전극 구동부 및 어드레스전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하여 고장 여부 및 부위를 자체 확인할 수 있으며 평가 패턴을 이용하여 장소의 구애를 받지 않고 화질을 평가할 수 있도록 한 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 장치에 관한 것이다.
주지와 같이, 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널은 두 개의 기판이 일정한 이격 거리로 결합되고 그 내부에 방전가스가 충진되며 복수의 행전극과 열전극이 서로 직교하게 배열되어서 복수의 방전셀을 구성하고, 전극 사이에 인가되는 전압 조절을 통해 방전을 얻으며 방전 시간의 길이를 변화시켜 빛의 양을 조절한다.
이러한 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 각 방전셀에서는, 두 행전극(스캔전극, 서스테인전극)과 열전극(어드레스전극)과의 사이에서 유발되어 화소를 번지 지정하는 어드레스 방전, 스캔전극과 서스테인전극과의 사이에서 유발되어 방전 발광을 유지시키는 서스테인 방전, 방전된 셀의 발광을 멈추게 하는 이레이스 방전이 선택적으로 유발된다.
상기와 같은 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널을 표시수단으로 적용한 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치는 도 1의 블록 구성도에 나타낸 바와 같다.
패널(10)의 스캔전극 및 어드레스전극은 각각의 개별 전극마다 독립적으로 구동전압을 인가할 수 있도록 절연되어 스캔전극 구동부(20) 및 제1, 제2 어드레스전극 구동부(30)에 접속되며, 서스테인전극은 모두 병렬 연결되어 공통으로 서스테인전극 구동부(40)에 접속된다.
마이크로 프로세서(50)는 외부 신호(CLOCK, BLANK, Hsync, Vsync) 및 주사 방식에 따라 전체 시스템을 제어하며, 이러한 마이크로 프로세서(50)의 제어에 의해 데이터 배열부(60)는 입력되는 R, G, B 영상신호 데이터를 패널(10)에 배치된 각 화소들의 순서대로 상위 비트부터 하위 비트까지 차례대로 재배열하고, 이렇게 정렬된 데이터는 각 비트별로 프레임 메모리(70)에 저장된다.
프레임 메모리(70)의 참조 주소는 주사 방식에 따라 순차적으로 증가되어 패널(10)로 영상신호가 출력되며, 타이밍신호 발생부(80)는 스캔전극과 서스테인전극 및 어드레스전극에 고 전압 펄스를 인가하기 위한 타이밍 데이터와 전송 클록 및 래치 신호를 각 구동부(20, 30, 40)에 출력하고, 이 것에 의해 각 전극에는 구동 펄스가 인가되어 복수의 방전셀에서 선택적으로 유발되는 어드레스 방전과 서스테인 방전 및 이레이스 방전에 의해 패널(10)에 화상이 표시된다.
이와 같은 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치의 구동방식은, 화소를 번지 지정할 때에 선택된 셀을 켜는지 끄는지에 따라 셀렉티브 라이트 방식과 셀렉티브 이레이스 방식으로 대분된다. 셀렉티브 라이트 방식은 선택된 셀을 어드레스 방전으로 켠 다음 일정한 회수만큼 서스테인 방전을 유발시켜 방전 발광을 유지시킨 후 이레이스 방전을 유발시켜 방전 소거하는 방법이며, 셀렉티브 이레이스 방식은 먼저 모든 셀을 방전시켜 켠 다음 선택된 셀을 어드레스 방전으로 끈 후 이외의 셀들을 서스테인 방전으로 발광을 유지시키는 방법이다.
한편, 전술한 바와 같은 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치는 스캔전극과 서스테인전극 및 어드레스전극에 고 전압 펄스를 인가하여 패널을 구동함에 따라 장치를 구성하는 여러 가지 디바이스 중에서도 스캔전극 구동부와 서스테인전극 구동부 및 어드레스전극 구동부의 고장 발생 확률이 상대적으로 매우 높다.
그런데, 스캔전극 구동부와 서스테인전극 구동부 및 어드레스전극 구동부의 고장으로 인한 화면 현상은 모두 유사하여 고장 부위를 파악하기 어렵고, 장소에 따라 방송신호의 수신감도가 달라서 수리 이후에 화질을 조정 및 평가하기 어려운 문제점이 있었다.
본 발명은 이와 같은 종래의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 제안한 것으로, 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 스캔전극 구동부와 서스테인전극 구동부 및 어드레스전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하여 고장 여부 및 부위를 자체 확인할 수 있으며 평가 패턴을 이용하여 장소의 구애를 받지 않고 화질을 평가할 수 있도록 한 패널 진단 장치를 제공하는 데 그 목적이 있다.
이와 같은 목적을 실현하기 위한 본 발명에 따른 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 장치는, 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 요청 신호를 입력 가능하며, 상기 진단 결과를 출력 받을 수 있는 패널 진단기와, 상기 진단 요청 신호에 따라 상기 패널의 스캔전극과 어드레스전극 및 서스테인전극을 각각 구동하는 스캔전극 구동부와 어드레스전극 구동부 및 서스테인전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하는 전류 검출부와, 상기 전류 검출부로부터 입력되는 전류 측정 데이터와 기 저장된 기준 데이터를 비교하여 상기 스캔전극 구동부와 어드레스전극 구동부 및 서스테인전극 구동부의 고장 여부를 상기 패널 진단기로 통보하는 마이크로 프로세서를 포함한다.
본 발명의 실시예로는 다수개가 존재할 수 있으며, 이하에서는 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 바람직한 실시예에 대하여 상세히 설명하기로 한다. 이 실시예를 통해 본 발명의 목적, 특징 및 이점들을 보다 잘 이해할 수 있게 된다.
도 2는 본 발명에 따른 패널 진단 장치가 적용된 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치의 블록 구성도로서, 도 1의 일반적인 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치와 비교할 때에 동일한 구성 요소에 대해서는 동일한 참조부호를 명기하였다.
도 1과 도 2의 구성 요소를 비교하여 보면 알 수 있듯이 본 발명의 패널 진단 장치는 플라즈마 디스플레이 장치에 부가적으로 결합되는 것으로, 전류 검출부(110), 평가 패턴 저장부(130), 패널 진단기(200)를 더 포함하며, 마이크로 프로세서(120)에는 패널 진단기(200)와의 연동을 위한 고장 진단 처리 기능이 부여된다.
전류 검출부(110)는 패널 진단기(200)를 통한 고장 진단 요청에 따라 마이크로 프로세서(120)에서 발생되는 전류 검출 제어신호에 의거하여 스캔전극 구동부(20)와 어드레스전극 구동부(30) 및 서스테인전극 구동부(40)의 구동 전류를 검출하여 전류 측정 데이터를 마이크로 프로세서(120)로 회신한다.
평가 패턴 저장부(130)에는 장소의 구애를 받지 않고 패널(10)의 화질을 평가할 수 있도록 화질 평가를 위한 R, G, B 영상신호 데이터가 저장된다.
패널 진단기(200)는 퍼스널 컴퓨터 등으로 구현할 수 있으며, 마이크로 프로세서(120)와 컴퓨터와의 통신을 위하여 UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) 등을 이용하여 마이크로 프로세서(120)와 컴퓨터가 데이터를 주고받을 수 있게 한다.
마이크로 프로세서(120)는 외부 신호(CLOCK, BLANK, Hsync, Vsync)와 주사 방식 및 패널 진단기(200)와의 통신 결과에 따라 전체 시스템을 제어한다.
상기와 같이 구성된 본 발명에 따른 패널 진단 장치는 마이크로 프로세서(120)에 부여된 고장 진단 처리 기능에 의하여 운용되는데, 이에 따른 고장 진단 및 화질 평가 과정을 설명하면 다음과 같다.
먼저, 마이크로 프로세서(120)에 의해 전체 시스템이 제어되어 스캔전극 구동부(20)와 어드레스전극 구동부(30) 및 서스테인전극 구동부(40)에 의하여 패널(10)이 구동 중인 상태에서 패널 진단기(200)를 통해 고장 진단 명령이 입력되면 마이크로 프로세서(120)는 전류 검출부(110)로 전류 검출 요청 신호를 전달한다.
전류 검출부(110)는 스캔전극 구동부(20)와 어드레스전극 구동부(30) 및 서스테인전극 구동부(40)의 구동 전류를 측정하여 마이크로 프로세서(120)로 회신하며, 마이크로 프로세서(120)는 전류 검출부(110)로부터 입력되는 전류 측정 데이터와 기 저장된 기준 데이터를 비교하여 그 비교 결과에 따라 스캔전극 구동부(20)와 어드레스전극 구동부(30) 및 서스테인전극 구동부(40)의 고장 여부를 판정하며, 그 판정 결과에 따라 선택적으로 고장 여부 및 부위를 패널 진단기(200)로 통보한다.
여기서, 마이크로 프로세서(120)는 전류 검출부(110)로부터 전류 측정 데이터를 입력받은 상태에서 별도의 처리 및 판정을 행하지 않고 전류 측정 데이터를 패널 진단기(200)로 전달하고, 패널 진단기(200)에서 스캔전극 구동부(20)와 어드레스전극 구동부(30) 및 서스테인전극 구동부(40)의 고장 여부를 판정하도록 구현할 수도 있다.예로서, 본 출원인에 의해 제작 및 판매되고 있는 해상도가 853×489인 VGA급 42인치 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 경우, 정상적인 구동 전류값은 스캔전극과 서스테인전극이 4㎃±1㎃이며, 어드레스전극이 0.5㎃±0.2㎃이다. 이러한 정상적인 구동 전류값이 마이크로 프로세서(120) 또는 패널 진단기(200)에 기준 데이터로 저장되며, 마이크로 프로세서(120) 또는 패널 진단기(200)는 전류 검출부(110)로부터 입력되는 전류 측정 데이터와 기 저장된 기준 데이터, 즉 정상적인 구동 전류값과 비교하여 전류 측정 데이터가 기준 데이터를 벗어나면 고장 상태로 판정하는 것이다. 이와 같은 고장 여부 판정을 위한 기준 데이터, 즉 정상적인 구동 전류값은 패널의 해상도와 구동 회로의 설계 차이 등에 의해 변경되는 것은 자명하다 할 것이다.
다음으로, 패널 진단기(200)에서 화질 평가 요청 신호가 마이크로 프로세서(120)로 입력되면 마이크로 프로세서(120)는 평가 패턴 저장부(130)에 저장된 화질 평가를 위한 R, G, B 영상신호 데이터를 읽어들여 데이터 배열부(60)로 전달하며, 이후 통상적인 시스템 제어과정과 동일하게 프레임 메모리(70)와 타이밍 신호 발생부(80) 등을 제어하여 화질 평가를 위한 패턴이 패널(10)에 표시되도록 한다.
상술하면, 데이터 배열부(60)는 평가 패턴 데이터를 패널(10)에 배치된 각 화소들의 순서대로 상위 비트부터 하위 비트까지 차례대로 재배열한 후에 정렬된 데이터를 각 비트별로 프레임 메모리(70)에 저장하여 주사 방식에 따라 순차적으로 패널(10)로 출력되게 하며, 타이밍신호 발생부(80)는 스캔전극과 서스테인전극 및 어드레스전극에 고 전압 펄스를 인가하기 위한 타이밍 데이터와 전송 클록 및 래치 신호를 각 구동부(20, 30, 40)에 출력하고, 이 것에 의해 각 전극에는 구동 펄스가 인가되어 복수의 방전셀에서 선택적으로 유발되는 어드레스 방전과 서스테인 방전 및 이레이스 방전에 의해 패널(10)에 평가 패턴 화상이 표시된다.
그러면, 사용자 또는 고장 수리자는 패널(10)에 표시되는 평가 패턴 화상을 참고로 하여 화질을 조정하거나 평가할 수 있는 것이다.
상기에서는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 국한하여 설명하였으나 본 발명의 기술이 당업자에 의하여 용이하게 변형 실시될 가능성이 자명하다. 이러한 변형된 실시예들은 본 발명의 특허청구범위에 기재된 기술사상에 포함된다고 하여야 할 것이다.
전술한 바와 같이 본 발명은 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 스캔전극 구동부와 서스테인전극 구동부 및 어드레스전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하여 고장 여부 및 부위를 자체 확인할 수 있으며, 평가 패턴을 이용하여 장소의 구애를 받지 않고 화질을 평가할 수 있는 효과가 있다.

- 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 요청 신호를 입력 가능하며, 상기 진단 결과를 출력 받을 수 있는 패널 진단기와,상기 진단 요청 신호에 따라 상기 패널의 스캔전극과 어드레스전극 및 서스테인전극을 각각 구동하는 스캔전극 구동부와 어드레스전극 구동부 및 서스테인전극 구동부의 구동 전류를 검출하는 전류 검출부와,상기 전류 검출부로부터 입력되는 전류 측정 데이터와 기 저장된 기준 데이터를 비교하여 상기 스캔전극 구동부와 어드레스전극 구동부 및 서스테인전극 구동부의 고장 여부를 상기 패널 진단기로 통보하는 마이크로 프로세서를 포함하는 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 진단 장치.
