Claims (8)
- 소정 거리를 두고 대향 배치되는 상/하부 기판과,상기 상/하부 기판 사이에 굴절율 이방성을 갖는 액정으로 이루어진 액정층과,상기 하부 기판과 상부 기판의 내측면에 상기 액정을 구동시키기 위해 배치된 제 1 및 제 2 구동 전극과,상기 하부 기판과 액정층 사이에 배치되며 제 1 방향으로 러빙된 제 1 배향막과,상기 상부 기판과 액정층 사이에 배치되며 상기 제 1 배향막과 평행하게 러빙된 제 2 배향막과,상기 하부 기판의 외측면에 배치되며 상기 제 1 방향과는 45°를 이루도록 배치된 제 1 편광판과,상기 상부 기판의 외측면에 배치되며 상기 제1 편광판과 투과축이 수직을 이루고 상기 제 1 방향과는 45°를 이루도록 배치된 제 2 편광판을 구비하며,각 화소의 박막트랜지스터를 구동하기 위한 게이트 신호 인가시 데이타 신호를 계단형 펄스신호로 인가하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 액정에 첨가되는 도펀트의 량은,셀 갭(d)/액정의 피치(p) 값을 0.1∼0.8로 하고, 바람직하게는 셀 갭(d)에따라 d/p를 0.26∼0.36으로 하여, 전압인가전 배열이 스플라이(Splay)이거나, 혹은 스플라이와 트위스트가 혼합된 상태이더라도 일정한 전압인가에 의해 한번 트위스트 상태가 된 이후에는 계속 180° 트위스트된 상태를 유지하도록 하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 d/p 값을 0.36∼0.8로 하여 전압인가전에는 항상 트위스트 상태가 안정된 상태가 되도록 하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 액정의 굴절율 이방성은 Δn = 0.06∼0.18정도이고, 셀 갭(d)은 3∼20㎛로 하되, 바람직하게는 dΔn이 0.18∼3.6㎛의 값을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 상기 액정은,구동 전압을 낮추기 위해서, 유전율 이방성이 Δε= 2∼20정도의 값을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 상기 액정은,정면에서 위상 지연값이 dΔn = 0.02∼1.5㎛이고, 상기 제1 방향의 러빙축과는 수직방향 혹은 수평방향을 갖는 굴절율 이방성을 갖도록 하여, 원하는 전압에서 다크 상태가 되도록 하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 액정의 프리틸트 각은0∼40° 사이의 값을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 계단형 펄스신호는 적어도 2개 이상의 계단형 펄스신호를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시장치.
