Abstract
Description
複数の画素を有する表示装置には、大きく分けて2つの駆動方法が知られている。1つは、一般的な静止画、又は動画を表示するための駆動方法であり、1フレーム毎に表示データを書き換える駆動方法である。これを”通常駆動”と呼ぶ。もう1つは、表示データの書き込み処理を実行した後、表示データの書き換えを停止する駆動方法である。これを”アイドリング・ストップ(IDS)駆動”と呼ぶ。主に静止画の表示に用いられる駆動方法である。
図1は、表示装置の構成例を示す回路図である。一例として、表示装置は、画素、及び複数の配線を有している。画素10は、トランジスタ11、トランジスタ12、トランジスタ13、回路14、容量素子15を有する。なお回路14は入力端子14aを有している。また、表示装置は、ゲートドライバ(図示せず)から走査信号が与えられる走査線として機能する配線31(配線31a、及び配線31b)を有する。なお配線31a、及び配線31bは、それぞれ異なる走査信号が与えられる走査線として機能する。また、表示装置は、ソースドライバからデータ信号が与えられる信号線として機能する配線32(配線32a、及び配線32b)を有する。配線32aには表示データ、配線32bには設定データが与えられる。配線33aには、固定電位が与えられる。以降においてデータ信号と示す場合は、表示データ、および設定データのいずれか一又は双方を含むものとして説明する。
図7では、表示装置について詳細な説明をする。表示装置20は、表示部21、ゲートドライバ22、ゲートドライバ23、及びソースドライバ24を有する。表示部21は、複数の画素10を有する。ゲートドライバ22は配線31aに走査信号を与えることができ、ゲートドライバ23は配線31bに走査信号を与えることができる。ソースドライバ24は、デジタルアナログ変換回路24a、及びバッファ回路24bを有する。バッファ回路24bは、複数のバッファ回路24c、及び複数のバッファ回路24dを有している。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態1で説明した各トランジスタに置き換えて用いることのできるトランジスタの一例について、図面を用いて説明する。
図11(A1)は、ボトムゲート型のトランジスタの一種であるチャネル保護型のトランジスタ810のチャネル長方向の断面図である。図11(A1)において、トランジスタ810は基板860上に形成されている。また、トランジスタ810は、基板860上に絶縁層861を介して電極858を有する。また、電極858上に絶縁層852を介して半導体層856を有する。電極858はゲート電極として機能できる。絶縁層852はゲート絶縁層として機能できる。
図13(A1)に例示するトランジスタ842は、トップゲート型のトランジスタの1つである。トランジスタ842は、絶縁層854を形成した後に電極857a及び電極857bを形成する点がトランジスタ810やトランジスタ820と異なる。電極857a及び電極857bは、絶縁層853及び絶縁層854に形成した開口部において半導体層856と電気的に接続する。
本実施の形態では、上記実施の形態で説明した半導体装置、表示装置、及び/又は記憶装置が搭載された電子機器の例について説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一形態の電子機器について、図面を参照して説明する。
本実施の形態では、上記実施の形態で述べたOSトランジスタに用いることができるCAC(Cloud−Aligned Composite)−OSの構成について説明する。
Claims (6)
- 第1の画素、第2の画素、走査線、第1の配線、及び第2の配線を有する表示装置の駆動方法であって、
第1の期間乃至第3の期間を有し、
前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素は、それぞれ異なる表示データが与えられる機能を有し、
前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素に与えられる設定データは、前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素の前記表示データを更新する状態、又は前記表示データを更新しない状態を設定する機能を有し、
前記走査線は、前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素に電気的に接続され、
前記第1の配線は、前記第1の画素に電気的に接続され、
前記第2の配線は、前記第2の画素に電気的に接続され、
前記第1の期間において、前記走査線には前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素を選択する信号が与えられ、前記第1の配線には、前記第1の画素が前記表示データを更新する状態となる前記設定データが与えられ、前記第2の配線には、前記第2の画素が前記表示データを更新する状態となる前記設定データが与えられ、
前記第2の期間において、前記走査線には前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素を選択する信号が与えられ、前記第1の配線には、前記第1の画素が前記表示データを更新しない状態となる前記設定データが与えられ、前記第2の配線には、前記第2の画素が前記表示データを更新する状態となる前記設定データが与えられ、
前記第3の期間において、前記走査線には前記第1の画素及び前記第2の画素を非選択とする信号が与えられ、前記第1の画素では、第1の表示データが表示され、前記第2の画素では、第2の表示データが表示される、
表示装置の駆動方法。 - 請求項1において、
前記画素は、前記設定データを保持するための容量素子、及びトランジスタを有し、
前記容量素子に与えられる前記設定データは、前記表示データを更新する状態、又は前記表示データを更新しない状態を前記画素に設定する機能を有し、
前記容量素子に与えられる前記設定データによって、前記トランジスタのオン状態又はオフ状態を制御され、
前記容量素子に前記表示データを更新する状態とする前記設定データが与えられる場合、前記トランジスタを介して前記表示データが更新され、
前記容量素子に前記表示データを更新しない状態とする前記設定データが与えられる場合、前記トランジスタを介して前記表示データが更新されない、
表示装置の駆動方法。 - 複数の画素、複数の走査線、及び複数の信号線を有する表示装置であって、
それぞれの前記信号線は、第1の配線、及び第2の配線を有し、
それぞれの前記走査線は、第3の配線、及び第4の配線を有し、
それぞれの前記画素は、第1のトランジスタ、第2のトランジスタ、第3のトランジスタ、第1の容量素子、及び第1の回路を有し、
前記第1の回路は、入力端子を有し、
前記第1のトランジスタのゲートは、前記第3の配線と電気的に接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの一方は、前記第1の配線と電気的に接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの他方は、前記第2のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの一方と電気的に接続され、
前記第2のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの他方は、前記入力端子と電気的に接続され、
前記第3のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの一方は、前記第2の配線と電気的に接続され、
前記第3のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの他方は、前記第2のトランジスタのゲートと、前記第1の容量素子の電極の一方とに電気的に接続され、
前記第3のトランジスタのゲートは、前記第4の配線と電気的に接続される表示装置。 - 請求項3において、
前記第1の回路は、第2の容量素子と、液晶素子とを有し、
前記第1の回路の前記入力端子は、前記第2の容量素子の電極の一方と、前記液晶素子とに電気的に接続される表示装置。 - 請求項3において、
前記第1の回路は、第3の容量素子と、第4のトランジスタと、発光素子とを有し、
前記第1の回路の前記入力端子は、前記第3の容量素子の電極の一方と、前記第4のトランジスタのゲートとに電気的に接続され、
前記第4のトランジスタのソース又はドレインの一方は、前記発光素子と電気的に接続される表示装置。 - 請求項3において、
前記表示装置は、さらにソースドライバを有し、
前記ソースドライバは、複数の前記信号線に電気的に接続され、
前記ソースドライバは、前記第1の配線に前記表示データを与える、又は浮遊状態にするかを選択する機能を有し、
前記ソースドライバは、前記第2の配線に前記設定データを与える機能を有し、
前記ソースドライバは、複数の前記信号線に前記表示データを同時に与える機能を有する表示装置。
