CONSTITUTION:Copolymer of dimethyldiarylammonium chloride and acrylamide expressed by formulae (I), (II) and at a mol ratio (n/m) of 9/1 to 2/8 is coated or impregnated on or in paper. Water ink used for formation of an image on paper for ink jet recording contains at least one of water-soluble direct dye, acid dye and reactive dye. Water solubility is donated to these dyes by the existence of an anion group such as a sulfonate group and a carboxylate group in molecules. When this water-soluble dye is caused to adhere to the surface of recording paper and to be absorbed, the ions of the anionic group and the cationic group of recording paper bond together to form water-insoluble salts. At that time, these salts have hydrogen-bonding property, so that cellulose and the acrylamide component with high chemical attraction effectively contribute toward water-proofness and light fastness.
