Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a large critical current and to simplify a wire drawing process by drawing a billet made by filling a sheath material with amorphous powder of an oxide superconductive material through a die and heat-treating the obtained wire in an oxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A sheath material 7 is filled with amorphous powder 6 of an oxide superconductive material and sealed to make a billet 8. The billet 8 is drawn to make a wire 10 through a die 9. The wire 10 is heat-treated in an oxidizing atmosphere to obtain a superconductive wire. Since the amorphous powder of the oxide superconductive material used is generally higher in density than microcrystals and smaller in grain boundary layer of the crystals and no Josephson junction is present, a large critical current is obtained. This makes it possible to make a wire having a large critical current with a simple manufacturing process.
