Abstract
PURPOSE:To keep off any pollution due to alkaline metals and secure such a seal that is excellent in reliability as well as to aim at preventing a photoelectron emission function from deteriorating by hermetically sealing a light input window and a tube body in such a way as to press a copper flange in a vacuum. CONSTITUTION:In a tube body 101, a coppery sealing flange 11 is brazed to an insulating structure, and a sealing flange 10 brazed with a ring 10a consisting of an iron-nickel alloy and a ring 10b consisting of copper is welded to a light input window 12 by frit glass 7. After a photoelcetron emission surface 8 is formed in a vacuum chamber, these sealing flanges 10 and 11 are pressurized and rolled by a pressure ring 20 and sealed under pressure. This pressure ring 20 is removed after this pressure sealing. Thus, a new copper surface appears on a joining plane between these copper sealing franges 10 and 11 and sealed under pressure, so that any influence of pollution due to alkaline metals is brought to nothing and a highly reliable seal comes possible and, what is more, owing to cold pressure-contact, any deterioration in a photoelectron emission function is preventable.
