Abstract
PURPOSE:To miniaturize an electrolyzing device and to efficiently separate and concentrate oxygen form air, by using a specific gas permeable membrane consisting of a porous gas permeable layer and a reaction layer having a catalyst as electrodes and a partition between an electrolytic solution chamber and a gas chamber. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen concentrating device consists of a solution chamber 1 which is equipped with electrodes 2 and stores a solution and one or more gas chambers 4 connected through a partition wall 2 to the solution chamber 1. Further, the partition wall 2 is partially made of a gas permeable membrane 2 consisting of a porous gas permeable layer 2a which is formed by bonding fine particles having electrical conductivity and has <=800Angstrom diameter and a reaction layer 2b which is set on the surface of the gas permeable membrane 2a and has a catalyst and the gas permeable membrane 2 constitutes a cathode and an anode of the electrodes 2 of the solution chamber 1. Such an electric current at low voltage not to electrolyze water in a solution is applied to the electrodes, air is sent to the cathode side and oxygen having the same pressure as that of the solution chamber 1 is generated at the anode side.
