It relates to the field of electrochemical technology and can be used for the decomposition of a liquid, mainly an aqueous solution, for the production of hydrogen. The purpose of the proposed invention is to increase the purity of the hydrogen produced. The goal set in the application is achieved by the fact that the electrolyzer is made in the form of separate cathode and anode chambers in which cathode and anode electrodes are placed, respectively, and the second pair of electrodes is made in the form of one common short-circuited electrode made of oxide-ruthenium material that does not react with oxygen , moreover, the fastening of a short-circuited electrode is made with the possibility of immersing it in a liquid and lifting it. The operation of the device is explained. The degree of purity of the hydrogen produced is achieved, firstly, by eliminating the side reaction of the anode electrode in the cathode chamber, and secondly, by eliminating the use of an asbestos diaphragm. The purity of the produced hydrogen contributes to the fact that a side reaction in the electrolyte volume is excluded due to the fact that the cathode and anode chambers are isolated from each other. The electrolyzer can be composed of several tens or hundreds of individual cathode and anode chambers in order to improve the performance of the proposed electrolyzer.
