A picture correlation discrimination circuit 7 detects the correlation of vertical and horizontal picture with respect to the noticed sample point and selects the output of the vertical chrominance signal extraction filter 104 when the correlation is especially strong in the vertical direction. When the correlation is especially strong in the horizontal direction, the output of the horizontal direction chrominance signal extraction filter 106 is selected.
