Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep high critical temperature of a compound oxide superconductor composed of group IIa element, group IIIa element and element selected from groups Ib-IIIb and group VIIIa of the periodic table, etc., by constituting the superconductor with crystal particles having particle size smaller than a specific level. CONSTITUTION:(A) One or more kinds of elements selected from group IIa of the periodic table are mixed with (B) one or more kinds of elements selected from group IIIa of the periodic table and (C) one or more elements selected from groups Ib, IIb, IIIb and VIIIa of the periodic table (the above elements may be their oxides or carbonates) at prescribed ratios, the mixture is prebaked and the product is crushed and formed to obtain a formed article. As an alternative method, (D) one or more elements selected from groups IIIb and Vb of the periodic table are mixed with (E, F) two or more kinds of elements selected from group IIa of the periodic table and (G) Cu (the elements may be their oxides or carbonates) at prescribed ratios and formed to obtain a formed article. The formed article is sintered at a temperature below the melting point (Tm) of the baked powder and above Tm-100 deg.C to obtain a compound oxide superconducting material having crystal particle diameter of <=30mum and expressed by formulas I and II (0.1<=x<=0.9; 1.0<=y<=4.0; 1<=z<=5; atomic ratio E/F=0.1-99; 1<=l, n<=4, 1<=m<=6, 4<=*<=30).
