Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a sintered body of small varistor voltage/limit voltage ratio by replacing a portion of ZnO and other materials used for the production of a non- ohmic element with a spinel phase compound and ZnO particles of a specified particle size.
CONSTITUTION: A minute amount of BaCO3 is added to ZnO, and the mixture is sintered and then boiled in pure water to form ZnO crystal particles of a particle size of 30W200 μm. Of ZnO and oxides of Bi, Sb, Co, Mn, and the like which are the materials for the production of a non-ohmic element, a portion of the materials other than those insoluble in spinel phase (e.g. Bi2O3, SiO2) and a portion of ZnO are mixed together; the mixture is sintered to form a spinel phase compound. The spinel phase compound, ZnO crystal particles, Bi2O3, and SiO2 are mixed at predetermined mixing ratios, and the mixture is sintered to form non-ohmic sintered body.
