Abstract
PURPOSE:To execute the surface treatments of the top and side faces of an Al alloy piston of an internal combustion engine with high accuracy and excellent workability by using specific masking jigs at the time of preventing the surface roughening of the above-mentioned piston by subjecting the top thereof to Ni plating and the side faces thereof to Sn plating. CONSTITUTION:The parts except the top 31 and tapered part 33 of the Al alloy piston 30 are covered with the cylindrical 1st masking jig 60 made of rubber and thereafter, the piston is immersed in an electroless Ni plating liquid to form an Ni plating layer 41 thereof. After this 1st masking jig 60 is removed, the bottomed cylindrical 2nd masking jig 70 made of rubber is mounted to the Ni plating layer 41 side and the cylindrical 3rd masking jig 80 made of rubber covering the skirt part 32 except the part of a top ring groove 34 is mounted thereto. This piston is then immersed in a 35% sulfuric acid bath to form an anodized film 42. The masking jigs 70, 80 are then removed and the 4th masking jig 90 is put on the piston from the top 31 and after an Sn plating layer 43 is formed to the skirt part 32, the masking jig 90 is removed.
