Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent coagulation between both sides of ring groove and piston ring by making an electroless plating over the piston having grooves around the outer periphery thereof so as to form a harder and stronger plating layer than alminium on the side of the ring. CONSTITUTION:A plating layer 5, which is harder and stronger material than alminium alloy, is formed in even thickness (10-30mu) over the piston surface after an electroless plating is effected on a piston made of alminium alloy and havin grooves 2 around the outer periphery thereof. As a result, a direct contact between the sides of the ring grooves 2 and sides 7 of the piston rings 6 is prevented, and a coagulant phenomenon is also prevented effectively, which is apt to occur from the side of the ring groove to the side of the piston ring.
