Abstract
PURPOSE:To compensate the curvature of field and distortion even when the angle of deflection is increased by forming a spot which is laterally long in a scanning direction on the reflecting surface of a deflecting means with a light beam generated by a light beam generating means through a 2nd optical system, and limiting the beam diameter of the light beam through an opening shield. CONSTITUTION:A 2nd optical system 2 is arranged between the light beam generating means 1 and deflecting means 6 and the light beam is converged in a subscanning direction by the 2nd optical system to form the spot which is laterally long in the main scanning direction on the reflecting surface of the deflecting means 6. Further, the opening shield plate 3 arranged between the light beam generating means 1 and deflecting means 6 limits the light beam mainly in the subscanning direction and its limitation width is varied to adjust the beam spot of the light beam on a surface to be scanned. Consequently, even when the angle of deflection is large, the curvature of field and distortion are compensated sufficiently although the extremely simple constitution of a spherical single lens and a toric reflecting mirror is employed.
