Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase an angle of deflection and to reduce the overall size of a device regardless of the simple constitution of an optical system by varying the distance between the optical system and the deflecting surface of a deflecting means in the direction of the optical axis and varying the slit width of a slit according to the distance. CONSTITUTION:A light beam which is collimated by a coupling lens 2 input a converged beam close to parallel luminous flux forms its image on the reflecting surface 6a of a rotary polygon mirror 6. The light beam which is polarized by the rotary polygon mirror 6 after passing through a spherical single lens 8 is reflected by a reflecting mirror 9 in a toric shape and projected on a photosensitive drum 10. The spherical single lens 8 almost compensates field curvature and distortion in a main scanning direction (x) mainly and the reflecting mirror 9 compensate the residue. Further, surface tilt correction is made by the curvature in the subscanning direction (y) of the reflecting mirror 9. Consequently, even if the angle of deflection is increased, the field curvature and distortion are all suppressed within permissible ranges in the main scanning direction and subscanning direction.
