Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a main scan and a subscan by an optical system of simple structure by composing the optical system of a main scanning optical system which deflects a light beam in a main scanning direction, a moving means which moves a light source in a subscanning direction, and a scanning lens which converges the light beam. CONSTITUTION:The light beam emitted by a semiconductor laser 40 as a light source is deflected by the main scanning optical system in the main scanning direction and converged by a scanning lens 48. Further, the light source 40 is moved by the moving means in the subscanning direction and then the light beam emitted by this light source 40 is deflected in the subscanning direction and converged by the scanning lens 48. Namely, the semiconductor laser 40 and a collimator lens 42 are rotated in the subscanning direction, i.e. as shown by the arrow D about the rotary shaft 46B of a rotary polygon mirror 46 to make a subscan, which is made by an ftheta lens 48 for the main scanning. Consequently, the main scan and subscan are made by the optical system of the simple structure.
