Abstract
PURPOSE: To form the shape of a laser spot to a desired shape and perform uniform optical scanning by using a semiconductor laser as a light source and providing a periodical deflecting means and an image-forming optical system as well as a focusing optical system for focusing on scanning plane.
CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor laser is used as a laser light source 1. Its light is passed through an image-forming lens 2, is deflected 4 by a galvanomirror or rotary polyhedral mirror and is focused on a scanning plane 5 by means of a focusing lens system 3. Here, the P-N junction face 11A of the semiconductor laser 1 is disposed perpendicularly to the rotating axis or oscillating axis of the deflecting mirror face 4 to increase spreading in the axial direction and decrease the same in the direction perpendicular to this. Next, the mirror face 4 is so disposed that its ideal position with respect to deflection becomes mutually conjugate with the light source 1 with respect to the image-forming lens 2 to let the image formed on the mirror face 4 function as the new light source of the focusing lens system 3. Further the power of the focusing lens system 3 is made different in the direction of the scanning line and the perpendicular direction, therby the laser spot on the scanning plane may be focused to a desired shape.
