Abstract
PURPOSE:To contrive improvement in heat insulating and reserving properties and mechanical strength, by forming a metallic compound of silicic acid on the surfaces of silica particles forming a heat insulating material and increasing binding power between the silica particles. CONSTITUTION:This heat insulating material is formed from silica particles obtained by forming a metallic compound of silicic acid on the surfaces and increasing the binding power between the particles. The above-mentioned metallic compound of silicic acid is obtained by reacting silica with an alkaline metal or alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide.
