Abstract

PURPOSE:To constantly obtain an intermediate tone image as set, by providing an electrostatic latent image forming device with both a controlling part for modulating beam intensity and a controlling part for modulating beam output time per dot, and causing the beam intensity to be higher as the beam output time per dot is shorter. CONSTITUTION:A data converting part 13 of a laser driving current controlling part 1, which is supplied with image density data, outputs a laser beam intensity signal 14 and a laser beam pulse duration signal 15 so that a current supplied to a laser will be greater as the pulse duration of a laser beam is shorter. The laser beam intensity signal 14 is converted by a D/A converter 16 into a signal 17 corresponding to a driving current for a semiconductor laser. The laser beam pulse duration signal 15 is inputted to a timing part 18, whereby the signal 17 is converted into a signal having a pulse duration per dot. The laser driving current controlling part 1 controls the current supplied to the laser and the pulse duration, whereby it is possible to use only a region in which the relationship between input energy for a photosensitive body and an electrostatic latent image is stable, and the electrostatic potential at the photosensitive body can be made constant irrespective of the length of the laser beam output time.
