Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain the high voltage applied to a positive electrode and a negative electrode by providing a step or a groove next to the cathode corner section of dielectric rings on the vacuum side surface of the negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:In an accelerating tube 1, the required number of dielectric rings 4 and intermediate electrodes 5 are stacked in turn between a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 3 to constitute a tubular body. This acceleration side surface forms a taper surface, and a step 7 is provided on the negative electrode 3 near its cathode corner section 8. The orbit of electric field electrons departing from the cathode corner section 8 has a tendency to separate from the vacuum side surface of the dielectric ring 4, the electric field electron impulse current from the cathode corner section 8 on the vacuum side surface of the dielectric ring 4 is decreased, and the positive ion accumulation density on the surface is decreased. The threshold value of the flashover voltage on the vacuum side surface of the dielectric ring 4 is thereby increased, and the accelerating tube can generate and maintain the strong magnetic field.
