Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it easy to handle a filtering and desalting apparatus and to make it possible to reduce the number of towers in the apparatus, by connecting in series a column packed with a granular ion exchange resin to the upper end of a hollow fiber membrane filter module which can be cleaned by means of a reverse air flow. CONSTITUTION:A column 12 packed with a granular ion exchange resin is connected in series to the upper end of a hollow fiber membrane filter module 11 which can be cleaned by means of a reverse air flow and which is of the one end-fixed type or other type, thereby preparing an element 1 for a filtering and desalting apparatus. This element 1 is packed in a vessel such that a filtrate which has passed through a hollow fiber membrane 2 comes into contact with an ion exchange resin bed 3, thereby to prepare a filtrating and desalting apparatus. In the case where a primary condensate in a nuclear reactor is treated, the solid substances suspending (crud) in the condensate are removed by means of the hollow fiber membrane filter module, and subsequently the salts dissolved in the resulting filtrate are removed by means of the ion exchange resin.
