Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound from a raw material gas containing methyl acetate or methyl propionate and O2 in one stage reaction and good yield and further re-utilize the by-product, by using a P-V-Ti-O based catalyst reduced in V content and having a specific composition as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:When a raw material gas containing methyl acetate or methyl propionate and O2 is brought into contact with a catalyst to provide acrylic acid, methyl acrylate or methacrylic acid or methyl methacrylate, a catalyst containing an ingredient expressed by the formula PaVbTicOd (a-d are each atomic numbers and when a+b+c are 100mol.%, b is 2-20mol%, c is 10-50mol.% and d is valence required for satisfying valence of ingredients excluding O) is used. Methanol can be preferably and further added to the raw material.
