Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound having carbon numbers higher by one carbon number than a saturated monocarboxylic acid among raw materials in one stage reaction and good yield and further re-utilize the by-product, by using a P-V-Ti-O based catalyst reduced in V content as a catalyst and the saturated monocarboxylic acid, methanol and O2 as raw material. CONSTITUTION:When a raw material gas containing acetic acid or propionic acid, methanol and O2 is brought into contact with a catalyst to provide acrylic acid, methyl acrylate or methacrylic acid or methyl methacrylate, a catalyst containing an ingredient expressed by the formula PaVbTicOd (a-d are atomic numbers and when a+b+c are 100mol.%, b is 2-20mol.%, c is 10-50mol.% and d is valence required for satisfying valence of ingredients excluding O) is used at the catalyst. Methyl acetate produced as a by-product according to the above-mentioned reaction can be re-utilized as a starting raw material.
