Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a regular polyethylene terephthalate in an extremely short time, by esterifying terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol, while introducing BHET which is to be present in the reaction mixture at the start-up of the reaction, from other esterification reactor under molten state.
CONSTITUTION: Terephthalic acid is esterified with ethylene glycol in the presence of bis-β-hydroxyethyl terephthalate (BHET) and/or its oligomer while introducing the molten BHET and/or its oligomer at the start-up of the reaction, from other esterification reactor. The BHET to be added is pref. of the esterification conversion of ≥85%. The amount of the BHET is 20W100% of the amount usually used in the conventional esterification process.
