Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the resistance strength to permanent set in fatigue and wear resistance of a composite member by forming a partly exposed porous metallic body of an Al alloy by internal chill molding and projecting a heat ray condensed at a high density to the partly exposed parts to heat said parts. CONSTITUTION:A member 3 constituted of the porous metallic body is prepd. and is subjected to the internal chill casting of the Al alloy to form an intermediate product 4 so as to expose a part of the member 3. An electron beam as the heat source condensed to the high density is then projected to the exposed parts of the member 3, i.e., peak part side 3a to remelt the peak part sides 3a. The beam is not projected to the member 3 except the peak part sides 3a at this time. The intermetallic compd. of Ni-Al, etc., is thus formed only on the peak part sides 3a. The hardness of the exposed peak part sides of the member 3 is thereby improved and the resistance strength to permanent set in fatigue and wear resistance of the composite member are improved.
