Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain superior dispersion stability, photosensitivity, red reproduction performance, and stability against repeated uses by forming a photoconductive layer containing a specified bisazo compound on a conductive substrate. CONSTITUTION:The photoconductive layer to be formed on the conductive substrate contains at least one of the bisazo compounds represented by formula I in which A is a divalent group of a hetero single ring having 2 N; B is a coupler residue represented by one of formulae II-VII; Z is an atomic group necessary to form an aromatic hydrocarbon ring or hetero ring; C is carbamoyl or sulfamoyl; R1 is H, alkyl, or the like; M is aryl; each of R2 and R3 is alkyl or the like; and Y is a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group contained in the ring or the like, thus permitting high photosensitivity and color sensitivity to be obtained.
