Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for pharmaceuticals, in high yield, on an industrial scale at a low cost, by reacting formaldehyde dialkyl acetal with CO in the presence of an aniline derivative or morpholines using a catalyst system containing Co and a base. CONSTITUTION:A glycine derivative (e.g. N-allyl glycine ester or N- alkoxycarbonyl methyl morpholine) can be produced by reacting formaldehyde alkyl acetal with CO in the presence of a catalyst system containing a Co catalyst (e.g. cobalt acetate) and a base (e.g. ethylamine or diethylamine). The reaction is carried out in the presence of an aniline derivative (e.g. aniline or 4-methylaniline) or morpholines. When the Co catalyst is used in the presence of a base, it may be combined further with a trivalent phosphorus compound (e.g. tri-n-butylphosphine).
